I was talking with a friend earlier this morning at the coffee shop and he was telling me about the mess he is currently in with his 2012 Mitsu Outlander. He took it to a well known local aftermarket place about a month ago to buy a new trailer hitch and have it installed, and they flubbed the job completely. He got the vehicle back and it immediately started throwing codes and doing all kinds of weird stuff. He immediately took the vehicle back and they denied any wrongdoing on their part and claimed it was fine before it left their shop.
He then took it to the dealer and they discovered that the wiring harness had been damaged and repaired, and also that it had to be boosted in order to start before it left the other shop, so there was no way that it was ok before it left. They also said he needs an new ECM module and wiring harness. The company is still denying they did anything wrong so now it's been handed off to his lawyer for legal proceedings. He is still without his vehicle and claims he is already out several thousand dollars.
I'm not sure why he took it there in the first place. He works at the same company as me and we get all our trailer work done at another shop because we get good service from them and they are very good to deal with. I've been taking my personal vehicles there for years for any service work i need. We stopped dealing with the other company several years ago because of poor service and i thought he knew all that, or he should have. Needless to say he's regretting taking it there in the first place.
