It should be reliable, they've had long enough to fix any issues.  That being said, they sell like 25 of these in Canada per year.  I don't know why Volvo even bothers offering it in our market.  It will be interesting to see how the next one does.

I remember when this car came out and it was pretty much universally panned for being boring. It doesn't help that updates have been minimal. I'm sure it's a fine car for some people but it puts me to sleep.

Somebody down the street from me has one of these and I still really like the look of it.

This is the only Volvo sedan /wagon that doesn't suffer from tiny rear seat syndrome. A V8 Creampuff could be a steal of a deal considering the depreciation.

Always liked this car. Toyed with the idea of picking up a used one but being so rare wasn't able to find the right combo of year/options/drivetrain.

That 4.4L V8 sounds fun.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

As long as that dry cam counter balance shaft bearing on the V8 doesn't let go. I know that was an issue on the XC90s and I imagine these are the same. No washing the engine!

Actually the T6 and 6sp Aisin combo has been pretty damn stout from the numbers I've dug up.

311hp/325lbft in the V8. My non Polestar'ed T6 (yes a travesty, yes I know) is 300/325 so a Polestar tune probably would put me quicker especially with that instant grunt.

I think my biggest issue with the S80 is that I find the overall look to be really hurt by the overhang. Somehow Audi hides it better....probably behind big ass wheels and extra styling elements and also that the A6 is about 4 inches longer than an S80...it looks visually lower.

And nothing looks as good as a proper RWD platform.

Its long in the tooth at this point. Going to be replaced soon with the S90 on the SPA platform. Should be pretty cool if the new XC90 is anything to go by.

I think it's more than just hiding it, it actually does have less of an overhang. I don't have measurements, but I remember Audi making a big fuss about redesigning its front suspensions a few years back to move the front wheels forward to get better weight distribution. Added bonus of that is less overhang visually.

I think the S80 has aged very well. Very understated and clean design. They sure are scarce though. Can't remember the last time I saw one on the road.

My mom drives a pre-owned base model 2012 S80 3.2 FWD. It's fantastic - quietly one of the best used values out there.  If I wasn't so obsessed with owning a hatch/wagon, i'd have one as my next car. Not even sure I'd need the power of the T6 -- the 3.2 has plenty of grunt -- though AWD would be nice.

Ah yes I think you are right, although every time I see an A6 or A8 it still does look overbite-y. I don't think that platform design accounts for everything though. They moved the front wheels but Audi engines are still mounted longitudinally which would require more space in front of the front axle compared to transverse no? So the starting point may have been worse.

With the new XC90, looking at the overhang it doesn't look too bad at all. About 50/50 between the wheel well to front door and to front bumper. Maybe the SPA platform change enabled this, perhaps the change to 4cyl only meant less stuff to fit under the hood in general, etc.

But in any case I'm fairly optimistic about the new S90 being a good looking car.

My Dad has a 2004 S80 with the 2.9 inline six. He likes it but it has started having some irritating electrical niggles.  Nothing that has affected driveability, but dumb things like elements of the stereo's digital display going awol from time to time and the burnt out bulb warning light illuminating when the head/tail/brake/driving/indicator lights are all fully functional...  IIRC, the first generation cars were noted for not being the most reliable, but so far the car has not let him down.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

Gahhh - blast! I forgot I'd posted in this thread and now I think my window for a timely + clever comeback has expired. Anyhow agree to disagree - I maintain the 3.2 is the greatest normally aspirated engine this side of a flat-plane Ferrari V8....or at the very least, it's got just the right amount of power for a 4000 lb. FWD swedish sofa ;D
