Lemons?  No Chump Car.

You can find seats for a weekend (usually 4 hours of driving) for about $1000 depending on the team / car etc.

Still not cheap.  We already spent over $1000 this year on our "$500" car that is one of the slowest in the field and that's just some oil and tires.

Some guys have put in $60,000 in their "$500" car.  There is no $500 car

By the time you put a cage etc in it you're already well up over $3k, so yeah.
$1k for a weekend is still a bit exie, but might be worth it for a once off.
If you know anyone in Ontario selling seats later in the year let me know!
Or of anyone selling a Chumpcar.

You are looking in the wrong place.  Lapping in the US is actually cheaper than Canada.
Really? I have been browsing Circuit ICAR (Montréal) and it's not terribly expensive. I know a one-day session with various automotive clubs at VIR or Atlanta costs the better part of 400-450$.

Drive Atlanta Motorsports Park with Just Track It on Saturday August 29, 2015  Cost $250 per driver

Friday, May 22 — Saturday, May 23, 2015  Atlanta Motorsports Park,  Each day at $199 and if MCA member, the cost is $179

VIR Club Thursday, Jun 18 — Friday, Jun 19, 2015  Virginia International Raceway, $175    for Club Member,   $175  for Guest in Touring Lites,
$350    for  Guest in Passing Group

The VIR Club events require a membership. Initiation fee is 3000 $US. Membership is 2100$ /yr on top of that, plus the 175 $/event fee.

The Atlanta event on 29 Aug for 250$ is about right for a non-membership event. I won't be in the US for this and don't have a suitable car for the track but I guess 250$ for a day is closer to what I'd expect, though still expensive (I must factor in hotel and petrol costs to get to ATL; Georgia is a bit too...."southern" for me.....do they have teeth there?)

Yeah, it's never cheap, just wanted to point out there are some "reasonable" rates.  One thing, it's usually far cheaper on weekdays, tracks usually charge twice as much for a weekend rental.
BTW, I found these dates randomly with a google search, there are tons of track days available on other dates and venues.

I should just fly Mr. Black down here so he can teach me the techniques and skills he learned from the Micra Cup car.  :drive2: More entertaining and less expensive.

(Would be nice to meet another Aussie after one of my best Aussie friends and family moved back to Melbourne last fall.)

For running at Castrol in Edmonton, we pay $295 for full day lapping events.  Works out to 2+ hours on track.

We pay $195 for half day lapping events (about 1+ hour of track time).
