Why does the Speedometer go up to 240 km/hr ?
If it went to 160 I think that would be better
Besides that looks like a nice car

Perfect timing for a Corolla review. The Automotive News and the Globe & Mail just reported that Corolla production is leaving Canada for
a new Billion Dollar plant in .................Mexico.

So does mine...

This isn't the trim I would get. The beauty of the Corolla to me is in its value quotient and the $2,000 is too much, IMO, for what you get compared to the LE model (no matter the transmission).

Cool, a review of a Corolla with a manual. Looking forward to reading about the drive.

One thing that bothers me about the current car's styling is how the rear end sits high... bigger gap over the rear wheel than the front.

That dash is tough to look at, especially the high-gloss black plastic. Domestic OEM's would be raked over the coals for putting something like that in their interiors.

I do like the direction that Toyota is going with their styling....their mainstream cars are starting to get a nice exterior look. As a brand though, the interior FAR from class leading

I've not driven the new Corolla, but I have sat in it.  I'm not partial to the new interior styling, but I am a fan of the functionality that comes with it.  I'm also a big fan of the blindingly-bright LED low-beams (James, please comment on them after a night-time drive, mayhaps somewhere unlit?).  I'm also curious as to the fuel economy that you get as the CVT is said to be more efficient than the 6MT.

If we're talking about the 'new' Corolla, I like a lot of the changes.  If we're talking about the 'new' anniversary trim, I'm not impressed.  It's trying to make a 'limited edition' out of nothing more than some red stitching and unique wheels, which, on a Corolla, should not matter that much.

I love how the RX's winter wheels are the same size as the OEM wheels on this Corolla.  Absurd.  17" wheels on a Corolla...

All talk of Mexico has been moved to the proper thread, please leave this thread about the Corolla.  Thanks.

I think it makes the car feel much more upscale, and the functional gains for those who drive at night are, IMO, superb.

I find the seat comfort non-objectionable, and the gauges simple.

It's not elegant, and perhaps immature in its styling, but it is so functional it's hard to find something better for the money.  We do live in a blessed time where $20k gets you this.  ...unlike the $20k Chevrolet Cavalier, now with optional 3-speed automatic and optional CD player.

Good to know... my dad is looking at a Corolla for his next purchase. How do they compare with non-LED lights and also with HIDs? Thanks

I was following a Jetta last night that looked like he had a candle mounted on his bumper lol

The brights are nearly useless as they are regular Halogens.  But your eyes do need to get use to the white light output of these LEDs.

The LEDs on the Acuras I drove were much brighter though.

That's cute.

I was driving home late last night on Dufferin.  As I approached Steeles, a car was in the left-turn lane with bright-as-:censor: headlights.  I was sure it was something fancy, but then as I passed, I saw that it was just a Corolla LE.  I lolz-ed.

...then realized, "sh!t, I've been working too many hours and need sleep."

I thought the same thing. LED headlights standard for all trims but you gotta get an option pkg to get rear disc brakes?

'Cause in a car of this type, good lighting is 1000x more useful than rear discs.  It's a FWD economy car with <150hp.

Trunk space is okay but the hinge arms do interfere considerably when closing the trunk. I picked up a 20L tub of oil and dropped it into the trunk and was confused at first why the trunk wouldn’t close — it seems most manufacturers have moved away from these interference hinges, I forgot they existed and how annoying they are.
:iagree:

I've learned to live with it and can pack well accordingly.  The trunk is 'huge' for the class of vehicle and I've never had an issue except for fitting 4 tires in there (I could have fit all 4 of the Forester's winters (16") in there, but the hinge arms get in the way.  It's a shame given that the Mazda3 has gone scissor-arm.  At least they could hide the arms like this:

...that'd be nice.  ...and yes, I did just post a picture of a Cadillac ATS in a favourable way (not that it has a 'big' trunk by any means).

The trunk is very big - we fit four expedition packs plus other stuff without any problem - but yes, the hinges are a bit of a PITA until you get used to them.
