This thing is trouble.

Local to me.

On Bat.

No reserve.

JDM right hand drive.

On snow tires. 11 year old snow tires.

It would make a water-cooler worthy stay-behind car.

Bidding à la Price is Right, $1, may nail this thing. Who in the US will pay for customs and shipping on this?

Perfect customer loaner for @TheHire?

Located in Brampton, No Reserve, looks fairly clean but has a bunch of codes lit up and a few mechanical needs. Probably a breeze for his shop!

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-mercedes-benz-e320-sedan-7/

Two days to go and it sits at $400 in a No Reserve auction - any takers here in the GTA?  ;D

Rough crowd in the comments!

Do it! What could possibly go wrong?  ;D

Never quite understood why people go to the trouble of importing RHD cars that we have here in LHD.

I have the same question. I'll give this to the seller: has balls (well, the seller's husband has at least  ;D) to list something like this on BaT at No Reserve. The selling lady mentions her husband is "an importer". The car was imported in 2023 and she put 7,000 km on it. At first I thought the Blizzak Revo 2 tires were antiques from the early 2000's but that Blizzak model appears current in Japan, where the car comes from.

The X300 generation of XJ doesn't bring in a lot of $$ in past BaT sales - the last one was a steal at little more than $4k.

If she put 7000 km on it this year it must be somewhat reliable. I've barely put over 1000 km on the XJR since I got it.

We know the rear diff is of interest, now! First generation with Ford bits. The wonky driver's seat power mechanism may be a shared component? I just asked the seller about the date codes on the tires - she got likes on her intro post but zero replies - I will at least start up her comment thread!

Just noticed that Jag is also a 3.2 which we never got here – North American XJ6s all had the 4.0 six. So even more pointless to import unless it was effectively free.

Indeed:

Only 68,000 km in 28 years though.

Went through the gallery. Tin top, one less trouble area, but headliner looks filthy - smokers? Body appears solid, with the usual nicks and scratches. Lots of wear on the bolsters of the driver's seat, some trim discolouration. No maintenance doc presented. All formal stickers on the car are in Japanese!

I always found the buttons on either side of the steering column kind of odd on these. Definitely looks like an older design than 1995. The X308 update brought a much nicer dash layout IMO.

I have the same question.

A few reasons.

First, mileage. Older cars there typically don't have a bazillion KMs.

Second, There can be a substantial savings cost-wise for a JDM (depending on model) vs USDM model with same mileage.

Finally, the car is more than likely in better mechanical condition than a USDM car. Japanese have a very rigorous used car inspection every other year. Japanese term is "Shaken" if you care to read up on it. It is essentially a strict vehicle safety inspection. After the inspection, the required repairs need to be done or no driving it..period. No conditional pass. Fix or don't drive it. So older used cars are typically in a better maintained state.

So these are a few reasons.

Thanks for the info! I would guess too that they don't use salt a lot on Japanese roads...
