I love seeing "modern" older preserved vehicles like this one:

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/st-catharines/1993-bmw-318is-coupe/1580545871

If it was a manual and 6 cyl, it would be worth a lot more.

Auto again. A laycock overdrive manual would be much better and cooler.

If that's a Canadian-market car, the bumpers are not original.  Should be just like these.

Funny to see my own face while browsing another website. Guide de l'auto hire pro photographers, hence vehicles being driven by the editors and shot while on the move. Here you can see dd1 in the passenger seat, dd2 in the back while Mrs Bp and dd3 are hidden from view. Minivan comparo circa 2017-18. That pic had not been used until now!

I’m going to look at this tomorrow. Hope you can all see the ad, I find it amusing. A 2005 Ford Excursion Diesel with 187k. The value of these things has gone bananas the past few years especially south of the border. Sounds like someone cut the catalytic converter off and the owner is now terrified of it blowing up or catching fire. Almost a moral dilemma here, they only want $3500 for this thing and if it’s in good shape it’s worth at least $15k from my US buyer. And $5700 for a exhaust system?!?! Wow!

Guess some folks just want to pull the pin on their old stuff and walk away. Wondering if their Ford mechanic is also interested in buying this. I’ll be bringing my trailer lol, hope it can hold such a beast.

So question...can those things not run without a catullus converter?  I mean I removed mine on my 89 5 point Oh almost immediately after I bought it.  Save a shitton of smack if he'd just straight pipe it, no?

And if they're looking for a set...these are ALL over Kijiji!  I'm totally sure it's all legal and legit here.  Pfft.  Probably save himself thousands of dollars too!!

They can run perfectly fine without one. In fact, most owners delete them. Some strange reason cat converters have about tripled in value recently. This is why they are attracting thieves. Nice high Diesel trucks are easy to crawl under and sawzall away.

Anyhow, went to look at it. Was in decent shape body, interior, etc. However it did white smoke an awful lot which leads me to believe the EGR cooler is cracked. That’s not too big of deal. But what was a big concern was the smell of diesel fuel in the coolant recovery tank. Quite a common 6.0 issue is the cracking of the heads allowing fuel into the coolant. Not a cheap fix.

My US guy wants it anyway. He can throw a new set of heads on it,  a EGR delete, studs instead of head bolts, and that’ll help really increase its value. His mechanic labor rate in Kansas is $85 per hour…it’s nearly double that here. Makes buying this and having it repaired worthwhile.

Cost of Ford;
$3500
My bill for buying/title;
$2000
His import cost/shipping;
$2500
New heads, EGR, labor and parts;
$4500
Miscellaneous;
$1500
Total, $14,000 CDN

He will get at least $16K USD (about $20,500 CDN)I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets closer to $20K. This is only a XLT trim, but to compare he recently sold a 2004 Eddie Bauer Excursion with 230k for $20,000 US.

That would largely depend on the first digit of the VIN. If it’s a 1 (US built) I’d say 17-18K. If it’s a 2 or 3 (Canadian or Mexican build) probably $15k. This is wholesale $.

Also, rust is a issue in that model. Extra $$ if it doesn’t have any!

when Importing to the US from Canada if the vehicle is built outside the US it gets a nifty tax. So a '1' VIN is worth considerably more. Many US dealers wont even touch 2-or3 VIN. The more the unit is worth the more the tax.

This despite NAFTA? There's no duty on cars imported to Canada if they're built in the U.S. or Mexico.
