I believe it really only did the one top speed run ...
Probably because doing it again would be tempting fate.  Plus the driver probably said “never again” after they survived the first run.

Thought it did a top speed run and said run fried the engine? I’ll have to dig through my 1987 box of car & driver as I’m sure they had that test.

I believe it really only did the one top speed run ...

... and since it's now standing at 425k$ it'll probably won't do another! Record held for 17 years - respect.

Exactly what record did it hold? As it's not a production car.

From the BaT listing :
Quote
The project set out to produce a car capable of breaking production car top speed records while retaining street car amenities. In October 1988, the car was driven round-trip from Callaway headquarters in Connecticut to the Transportation Research Center’s 7.5-mile oval track in Ohio and piloted by John Lingenfelter to a record-breaking speed of 254.76 mph.

From that I would guess that it was a speed record for a street legal car.

So everything’s going up in price but when did S2000’s start becoming so pricey? There’s a 2003 S2K with 75k in Vancouver, looks decent but graded fairly low (2.8 out of 5.0) and has about $35k in collective accidents on it history report. They still want $40k! Last I checked a nice stock one was 25-30k.

My parents had one of these back in the day.  Same year and colour scheme.  It was the only truck I remember my parents owning and one of the few vehicles they bought brand new.  It started rusting out within a year.  My father said it was the hardest thing on gas that he ever owned, and he was a dealer and went through a lot of vehicles.  They didn't keep it for long...maybe one year.   :-\

Back when Dieselgate was in full swing and I was contemplating my un-TDI options, I considered getting a 997 or 991. Barely. Got scared of maintenance costs. At the time, clean cars were still below what I paid for the A3. But today...  :banghead:

My Dad's then-new SJ Cherokee - also a '74 - was held up with pop rivets and Bondo at the current age of my Odyssey. And it got 8 mpg.

That looks awesome. Currently at $85,500 with a few hours left. Guessing it will be a six figure sale.

I feel like it's true, but it's also a :censor: record, made up to suit the car.

25-30 minutes away...too much $.  Could be cool when done and done right though...
1967 Galaxie Fastback - 390 4 spd car

For reference (because all you can see right now is "Really? That? Nope...") - but yes, it can look cool when done.

That doesn't seem to be way too much money for a solid, but unfinished project.  Offer $4k and see  :stick:

Hard to tell with the dust but looks poor if was repainted. Appears to have good glass which is a big plus.
