Went for USD 54,000.

Correction: Reserve not met @ $54,000 USD.

This is a 1999 Corvette, and the driving video comes highly recommended  :)

Very rare, and lucky it is still running and in good shape. Most blew their diffs and rusted out.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I too was a bit on the what can I find today mode...limited myself to a couple of cars I would like.
I would LOVE to own one of these someday...but alas...I'm getting old.  Life is over...so all we have is the dream... :-\
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/edmonton/1968-corvette/1498775461
Side pipes: check
4 spd: check
L88 style hood: check
Chrome bumpers: check
Weld wheels: Yup, even like those on here...suits, and they're not 20's.  Has the right ratio of rubber and rim.
At $22,000, if it's not perfect, at least you can drive it without worrying about it.

Or this. 1971 Olds 442 Tribute.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/medicine-hat/1971-olds-442-tribute/1497998768

Not perfect, but price-wise compared to US and after exchange?  It's cheaper than one in Florida
https://miami.craigslist.org/brw/cto/d/deerfield-beach-1972-oldsmobile-cutlass/7109353444.html
Which is probably nicer...but, $15,000 nicer?

Or if you're OK without the 442 stuff, here's one in Kamloops for even less.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/kamloops/1970-olds-cutlass-supreme-convertible/1486919409

Makes the Vette seem like a steal...and too bad they're all red.  Couldn't find any in the blue I like.

Never been a big fan of the hardtops...but damn...this thing, if it is as nice as the pics seem to say it is...hell yes.  Could even be worth the 43% exchange rate.
https://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/d/springfield-1969-olds-4-4-2/7116632939.html

That's all sorts of pretty.

Then I got looking at what was my second least most favorite Mustang.  Now...hmm...I think I'd actually consider one of these.  When they're right, they just look right.  Oddly, convertibles seem to be cheaper than the fastbacks.

Here's a pretty Cdn find. 1973 for $23,500 - the colours are just perfect too.  Hopefully it was restored right.  And it needs the appropriate Magnum 500's.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/ottawa/1973-mustang-convertible/1498867227

For contrast, an American example:
1971 non-AC car. At $18,000 would be more $ than the Cdn one.
https://fortmyers.craigslist.org/chl/cto/d/port-charlotte-1971-mustang-convertible/7105897715.html

But, there are cheaper cars to be had.  Maybe a 4 spd car?
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/ant/cto/d/lancaster-1973-mustang-convertible-4spd/7114487981.html

The interior looks good in that one too.  All black...none of that multi-coloured 3 shades of faded red or blue.

Wasn't going to do another 'vert, but this one is drop dead sexy.  And it's in "Wife would hate it green" too. And even though it's not a MACH...damn, fine looking car. And "only" $19,000 US.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/303557352274

It's the wheels again, isn't it?  Wheels make or break a car.

So that lead to fastbacks...and fack me I love this.  1973 for $25,900 US - or about $37,000 Cdn at current rates.
https://rockford.craigslist.org/ctd/d/joliet-1973-ford-mustang-fastback-351/7102918190.html
Does this not look amazing?

For similar pricing in Canada, there's this one.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-voiture-collection/ville-de-quebec/ford-mustang-mach-1-1973/1489028798

Or perhaps the creme de la creme in Canada? A 1972 for $50 g's.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/edmonton/mustang-mach-1/1497095720
And only 1 picture??

But it's what is included in the ad that counts...
Heavily modified 1972 mustang Mach one.
500HP to the wheels via a Tremec TKO 600
All aftermarket driveline parts.
Naturally aspirated Clevor 408 (Windsor block with Cleveland heads)
Spent $27,000 on the short block alone in 2010
Interior in excellent shape, electrical system completely replaced with a Painless kit, 3” exhaust with electronic cut outs, MSD ignition with billet components, custom 950 CFM carb, ceramic clutch, all aftermarket tubular front end components, engine internals all forged....

Jeez! That engine...$27,000...it better last a LONG time even if you beat on it mercilessly.  Should've spent some money on EFI.

In the end, I think the Vette wins the value proposition.  Might even fit in the garage with my other DD...now...if only it wasn't a stupid thing to do in these times of crisis.  Thank goodness I'm not with deep pockets.

No...wait... >:( :P

I test drove one of these once, literally the worst car I've ever driven. I don't know how anyone has nostalgia for such a poor handling car. The steering was so vague I had absolutely no idea what the front of the car was doing.  I think it's this generation of American cars that made 'American sports cars' and 'cornering' such a running joke for decades in Europe. Only to really be erased by the C7.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

X2. Had one at the Ford dealer I was at, came from an auction and the previous owner had kept the thing like new. Was very, very underwhelmed, gutless, poor brakes, poor handling, dollar store quality but the older salesmen were tripping over each other to drive it. Yeah, I don't get it unless you dump a modern drivetrain, suspension and brakes into it.
Lighten up Francis.....

Nightmare!     The 2.slow engine  and dubious electronics.     The Mk5 GTI which started in 2008 would be ok.  I had one for 5 years  and it worked well and didn't go wrong.

I've never had the chance to drive one.  I just love how they look.  And, they do make upgraded parts for those old cars, because they probably all drive like crap.  A new Kia Forte GT is probably a better drive (and might even be faster) than most of the cars on my list.  More comfy too, and better on gas.  I'd still like an old bumpered Vette though.  (or any one of the others...too bad I wasn't born rich, or smart...I'd have a thousand cars in a garage somewhere. If Jeff B would only give me a minute of his time...in cash ;D)

Preferably the 24v version. I was always a fan of the 1.8Ts though.

This isn't the 'new civic could beat an old Ferrari' argument though. These are so bad handling that they are barely drivable, parts aren't gonna fix sh!t.  Buy a non-runner and just admire it from afar.

That Stingray would make a great Sunday Cruise car.  You don't necessarily need it to be a good handler, or even fast.  Just take a nice, leisurely drive on a Sunday for some Ice Cream, or to a car show, or whatever.  It probably makes a nice noise, though.
