Proper LS swaps are NOT cheap.  People think they are cheap, but a decent LS costs big bucks.  Have read many, many horror story LS swaps.

A standard 2JZ block is good for almost 1000HP with stock components.....Best part is you can still buy brand new short blocks from Toyota for $2500 if you somehow needed a new one.

"Better or worse"?  I'd say you might have some constraints with the length of the I6....a 2JZ is about 2-3" longer than an LS.  But FFS...I've seen 2JZ in S2000s....so I guess almost anything is possible!

You have to think of an LS swap as a way to change the character of a car and replace an OE engine that has too many issues to contend with.  It's NOT a "cheap upgrade" project.

Take the 996 911.  Guys think an IMS nuked car is a perfect candidate for an LS swap.  Sure, if you're ready to spend MORE than going with an IMS-solved 911 engine.  By the time you buy a solid LS and sort out all the issues with the swap (and yes, the kits all require a LOT of work to install) you're not saving a dime, and you're probably out a bunch more dough.

I love the FD RX-7, agree it's one of the best looking cars to every be loaded on a boat from Japan, and in many ways it's a prime LS swap candidate.  The LS is compact and light, keeping the RX from gaining too much weight.  But, don't think it's a way to fix a broken RX-7 on a budget.  It will cost a lot.

With a welder and a plasma cutter you can mainly make any engine fit into any car, I mean Roadkill shoved a 440...or 454, into a Samurai. No, a good, performance LS is not cheap. Everyone thinks a 5.3 truck engine from the scrapyard for $1000, but, thats not the engine you should be shoving into an RX7.

4.8 and 5.3s are iron engines and too heavy for the RX-7.  A nice LS3 is the real deal, but you're going to be out some real money.  A basic crate is about $10K.

I remember an article of someone doing a swap and they got an engine from a wrecked C5 Corvette.  Cost a bundle!

That's the thing, right?  You never know.  And that's where the horror stories come from.

Whereas the 2JZ (or an old Jeep I6 for example) are near bullet proof...even ones from a wreck.

I daydream about "2JZ-ing" one of the 4.5L Toyota I6s....like how much boost/HP could one of those things hold?

$22k for almost new 2017 Fiat Spider ...

Does this seem super cheap? The dealership looks like one of those re-building credit type places which makes the low price even more puzzling.

^^ That very Fiat shows up on my dealer auction site with a price of $20,900. There is one with 200km on it as well for $22,900. A few brand new ones with under 100k in the 30-40 range. Which is more, Lusso or Abarth??

Abarth or nothing with the 124, and even then only with mods

Fiat screwed it up.

Nice to see an unrestored Duster without rusty quarters.  Even with the 318, it still would be a fun car.  I know I had lots of fun with my 318-powered '72 Dart Swinger.

That's not bad. That is a lot of depreciation though.

I found the MSRP just too stiff.

I love the 124.  I think the Miata looks tortured.

PS - a FB buddy of mine just bought an Abarth 124.

I agree the Abarth 124 looks better than the Miata...but it still has its issues, mainly to do with the power and the exhaust. Both need lots more.
