So the Volvo 242 Turbo w/intercooler went for US$15,500 and the International Pick-up went for $US16,000.

That 944 is gorgeous.

What a waste to have had it all those years and barely 5K miles on it!!!

^^^  Completely agree. Cars are made to be driven. Okay, he's not daily driving it or anything, but Nico Rosberg actually takes his 1955 300SL out on public roads and drives it. And he drives it hard, even.

One day I expect you to fly down there and drive home in some old cushy Chrysler product.  It's only fitting.

This is an impressive build.  The early bid of $10k reflects that.

The fetishization of the LR Defender in North America:

UK: Nice Price: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201901244247132?year-to=1995&radius=1500&make=LAND%20ROVER&model=DEFENDER%20110&year-from=1980&sort=sponsored&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&postcode=sw1a1aa&keywords=TDI&page=1

GBP 9,500

Canada: Crack Pipe: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/city-of-halifax/land-rover-defender-tdi/1413314049?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true&fbclid=IwAR0IgTSbWM1tqJPAAWnrrk6bS2hSvo65vKpPiinpR3NEPKBvL19yOzCG5gw

CAD 60,000

OK, the UK one isn't pristine, it has  $25,000 more on the odo, but it's 2 years newer, with alloys...

Never got the fascination with those and the willingness of people to spend so much money on them. Sure the 110s are cool and all, but not at that kind of money. You can buy a used Jeep Rubicon for far less money, used, and have something thats way more reliable and capable.
Lighten up Francis.....

^Yup.

Land Cruiser, I understand. LR, not so much. I'd go Jeep too.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

And CAD 60K will get you a 2009 G-Klasse.  Perhaps not much more reliable than the Defender, but way more comfy and very capable, and way newer...
