The 415hp base and even 450hp X50 have a TON of left over power in them, OMG.  They're so moddable and the gains are ridiculous.

Have you seen that engine apart?  When the 996T came out the local dealer had a launch event and they had a factory guy there with an engine open, and wow, the quality is amazing.  Porsche went to town on the car, seriously.  The amazing part is that for the price of a used Cayman you can build a car that will run with or leave behind a new Z-06 or other high dollar zoop-er car.

not for a 2012, nope

go 2013 or newer for that gen, many improvements as the years went on - also, can probably be had for $15k now for moderate mileage

2009.

Added a nifty hands-free radio to it too.  Once you learn how the learn burn cycle works in it (you can ever so slightly feel the transition) you can get into the 2s with it.
