So question...can those things not run without a catullus converter? I mean I removed mine on my 89 5 point Oh almost immediately after I bought it. Save a shitton of smack if he'd just straight pipe it, no?
And if they're looking for a set...these are ALL over Kijiji! I'm totally sure it's all legal and legit here. Pfft. Probably save himself thousands of dollars too!!
They can run perfectly fine without one. In fact, most owners delete them. Some strange reason cat converters have about tripled in value recently. This is why they are attracting thieves. Nice high Diesel trucks are easy to crawl under and sawzall away.
Anyhow, went to look at it. Was in decent shape body, interior, etc. However it did white smoke an awful lot which leads me to believe the EGR cooler is cracked. That’s not too big of deal. But what was a big concern was the smell of diesel fuel in the coolant recovery tank. Quite a common 6.0 issue is the cracking of the heads allowing fuel into the coolant. Not a cheap fix.
My US guy wants it anyway. He can throw a new set of heads on it, a EGR delete, studs instead of head bolts, and that’ll help really increase its value. His mechanic labor rate in Kansas is $85 per hour…it’s nearly double that here. Makes buying this and having it repaired worthwhile.
Cost of Ford;
$3500
My bill for buying/title;
$2000
His import cost/shipping;
$2500
New heads, EGR, labor and parts;
$4500
Miscellaneous;
$1500
Total, $14,000 CDN
He will get at least $16K USD (about $20,500 CDN)I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets closer to $20K. This is only a XLT trim, but to compare he recently sold a 2004 Eddie Bauer Excursion with 230k for $20,000 US.
