Oh Yeah. Yet another useless debut picture !! No indictment against Autos.ca but against the auto industry that thinks these so called teasers do much for customers interest.

"How to kill a best selling model with this one weird trick."

It's got to play in Peoria, and sales duds like the X6 and ZDX tell me the hatchback styling won't. It'll be interesting to see how accurate this teaser is.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

It also looks like it has the "floating roof" a la Murano.

What we see at first glance is a rakish, BMW X6-esque tail and flared rear wheel arches, cues that suggest Lexus might stray from the typical mid-size luxury crossover formula with this new design.
It also looks like it has the "floating roof" a la Murano.
That was my thought, but there's no way in hell that Lexus is going to stray from the 'typical mid-size luxury crossover formula.'

I think that they will likely not stray as far as this picture would suggest from the current design.  They will not be making it X6-esque - there's no way they'd make the rear glass any more rakish than it already is.  It will likely use some black plastic to make the roof look like it's floating (a la Murano), but the overall shape will not change as much as this photoshopped image would suggest.

Powertrain-wise, our best guess is the RX will stick with its proven 3.5L V6/six-speed automatic combo for the moment, despite the eight- and nine-speed autos fitted to many of the RX’s competitors.
Ahem, sir, Lexus DOES employ an 8-speed auto in the RX; limited to the F-Sport trim, yes, but it is fitted.

I suspect Lexus will not change that - the 6-speed auto will likely remain as the 'base' tranny while the 8-speed will be relegated to F-Sport models for higher margin sales.

The RX has seen more styling changes recently than any other car I can think of.  It just saddens me that Lexus sees the Murano as such a threat.

SirO - what are the sales #s?  I'd imagine the RX is slaughtering the Murano, no?

For 2014 the RX sold 107k in the US, 7.9k in Canada. The Murano sold 47k in the US and 4.7k in Canada.

So far this year it's 13k/0.8k for the RX and 7.8k/1.1k for the Murano.

Good for Nissan!  Those are pretty good YTD #s!

...still, odd that Lexus would look to the Murano for design changes - it acknowledges the Murano as a serious competitor to do so.

By that logic, Ford thinks that Aston Martins are serious Fusion competitors.

I think you are really reaching in order to speak contrary to my posts.

...you know Ford, at one time, owned part of Aston Martin, and took its design language because it could...right?

That's VERY different from Lexus changing its styling to match the daring nature of Nissan's.

Now you're reaching. Ford hasn't owned Aston Martin since 2007. It has no more right to Aston's design language than any other company.

My example may be extreme, but your assertion is absurd even ignoring the fact the current Murano didn't exist when the new RX was penned.
