No overlap with the CR-V and HR-V?

Pricing will be the most important thing.  They will have a line up similar to Mazda.  Mazda2 (subcompact hatch), Mazda3 (compact in sedan and hatch), upcoming CX-3 (subcompact CUV based on Mazda2), and the CX-5 (CUV).

Now they should be able to match Mazda3, as Mazda had to come close to matching the Honda Civic when the 3 was built in Japan..

Considering how well hatchbacks sell in Canada, I was always puzzled why Honda stopped selling the Civic HB in Canada. Really bizzare. Probably could have sold another 1M cars over all those years.

That's the question. But Mazda doesn't seem to be worried about overlap between Mazda3, CX3 and CX-5.
I used to work here.

*yawn*

sorry, but they're not going to use the 'overstock' and switch over all manufacturing to make it now a left-hand driver.  The re-tooling would be too expensive.

The last Civic hatchback that was sold here was built in the UK.

I haven't been this excited since the false rumours started last Fall about the Auris Touring Sports coming to Canada as a Scion.

Hopefully Honda will see the folly in Toyota's ways and sell the Civic Hatch and Tourer in Canada even if the Yanks don't want them.

Should we start an official countdown to the crushing of our false hopes or allow ourselves to dream on?

All the 'reports' of underutilized UK factory space are just as true for Toyota as for Honda.

NoTo,

That's the ordinary Auris hatch not the wagon.

Return of the Civic SiR?

I seriously regretted not buying it when it was brand new...I was deciding between the RSX, the SIR hatch and Miata... I bought a miata instead, coz none of the Honda/Acura dealer let me test drove an RSX nor SIR at the time...I was fresh out of school maybe I looked too young

I would have gone with the RSX Type S! Such a rare modern classic...

Well, it's not like he made a bad choice with the Miata. But I agree about the RSX: SiR hatchback was a bit of a letdown after the previous generation SiR coupe.

They were all fine options but only the Civic from Swindon had the elevated, rally-style shift lever.

I see a few around Ottawa so they must still be available in the used market.

^^ Just saw one yesterday. Was lowered on meaty rubber and had a number plate and tow hook on the front. Nice little race car.

It appears that the Civic will not be the only new Honda hatchback in North America. According to Autoblog, the plan is to ditch the hybrid drivetrain in the next gen CR-Z and replace it with a 280hp version of the 2.0-liter turbo four used in the Civic Type R.
