Agreed, the infotainment system is dated in the XF now, but other than that, I really like this car.  It's much better in reality than it appears on paper.  Drove a supercharged, AWD one to Nova Scotia and back a few years ago and it was a fantastic long distance machine.  http://www.autos.ca/car-test-drives/road-trip-2013-jaguar-xf-3-0-awd/?all=1

I used to love Jaguars. I'm completely disinterested now. "Oh look, Jaguar made a German car. Just like everyone else."  :P
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I'm the opposite.  I can't wait for the XE to come, but the XF is too big for me.

Hopefully the battery issue is solved.

I'll grant you that for the XF and presumably for the XE, but the XJ (and certainly the F-Type) give a very different experience than the German cars I've driven.

This wagon is ridiculously good looking. For 10 seconds I believed I had found my next car....but a quick visit to the Jaguar Canada page has crushed any hopes I had of ever being able to own a classy mid sized wagon in Canada that isn't ruined with increased ground clearance, cartoonish plastic body cladding and delusions of being an SUV.   :'(

Question :
Why bother testing a  $70,000 high performance awd vehicle in northern Ontario mid-winter equiped with ALL SEASON tires that quote: proved largely unsuitable for use on snow and ice and couldn't keep the car from slipping and sliding comically about ??

You caught me... ::)

Here's the thing:  Most Auto Journos are considered self-employed, freelance writers.  They are known to the manufacturers as "press" and have credentials to support that.  They arrange to pick up a vehicle, whatever's available and worthy, in the journalist's opinion, of being reviewed.  Upon arrival, they sign some forms and are given a car 'as is'.  They have to pay for gas.  If the tires are balding, but above the legal limit, tough sh!t.  etc.

For Pritch, here's an opportunity to drive an exciting, expensive car, which gives him the creative 'juices' to write up an article, make a video, or both, to provide to a media outlet (such as Autos.ca) in exchange for a few bucks (barely covering the cost of his awesome hat, cup 'o jo, and gas - how Jacob can afford gas is beyond me given his unworldly-heavy foot).

So why, you ask, would he test a vehicle if it's in 'unsuitable' condition?  Because that's his livelihood.  You get what you can get, and while a Fiat 500 Turbo was likely available, he'd garner more money and more attention on reviewing a Shaguar.

^^all of the above is what I think and is wholly unsubstantiated and unconfirmed by anyone (especially not Pritch, Jacob, or autos.ca)

...but I do love hearing that I'm (at least in part) correct, so if I am, Pritch, please advise!!

Because if someone tossed me the keys to an awesome car with racing slicks and my only chance to drive it was during a blizzard....I would be all over that!!!! Sure, it would be nice if Jaguar would have put on a proper set of winter tires or let them have the car in June, but they get what they can get when they can get it.
Lighten up Francis.....

NoTo is exactly right. First, the Jaguar drank way more in fuel than I'll earn by test-driving it, spending a day at the wheel off of work getting it home and back, 5 hours each way, and the like.

Second, I take what I'm given. I have heaps of experience driving my own car with sporty summer tires all year round up here.  As a kid, I had a 240sx, and ran sporty dunlops all year. For 7 years.

Stupid? Very. Advisable? No. Am I a winter tire guy? Absolutely. Why the risk? Had university to pay for, and couldn't afford winter tires. Simple as that.

So, I'm not afraid to drive without winter rubber in the snow, but I'm very conscious of weather forecasts and would, if in danger, not have taken this tester. Why they didn't put winters on it, I have no idea. Some manufacturers do, others don't. Simple as that.

Does it mean the review is useless? That's up to you to decide. I'd argue that's not the case

;D

I thoroughly enjoyed the read.  I am not complimentary to EVERY review I read on here - only the ones that I like.  Consistently, Pritch's reviews, especially with the videos, are informative beyond just "here's the hp figure" and always have some shenanigans shown (like how quickly a car can start up on snow while flooring it) that are immensely informative to a prospective buyer.

While he cannot (shy of buying new tires for every test, at his own expense) define what tires the car comes with, he makes conclusions and says a lot that we want/need to read when forming an opinion of a car.  Rather than blaming the tires, he made a quick comment about them and moved on.  Perfect.  No questions from me, no concerns, and no bantering.
