Personally I don't really get the appeal of a convertable.  If you want the open air experience just get a bike.  I guess some want the comfort of a car with the open air experience.  I'm thinking it would be a rather close competition between this and the Audi A3 cab.  I think I like the interior of the BMW better but the Audi on paper seems like the better value.  That being said I haven't really compared the options lists extensively so I'm not sure how they stack up.  I see a future comparo coming.

"they’ll quiver and shake like a hooker in church"  :rofl2: I don't get these small cabs with a useless back seat. Why not just but a proper convertible...a roadster.

I sat in the 2 convertible and the A3 convertible back-to-back earlier this year at the auto show. Closing the driver's door generated a clunking noise and a vibration that could be felt through the car. Something I never experienced on any BMWs that was somewhat worrisome. The Audi A3 in comparison felt like a vault. I would recommend to carefully evaluate the 2-convertible on your real world driving conditions.

The loaded A3 convertible (Technik with S-line and Technology packages) is $52k vs $60k mentioned in the article.

For the above 2 reasons and because I find the A3 convertible gorgeous the BMW sales rep would have quite a task to convince me to sign the dotted line. But it would be a different story if shopping for a coupe as I do like the M235i.

Yeah, Johnny, you've clearly never really driven a convertible around.  I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement (respectfully, of course).

See my 2015 BMW Z4 review:

You can also use the key fob to operate the roof.
See, this the Z4 could not do.  Mayhaps it's because I was in a 'base' model, but we could only operate da roof, da roof, da roof via centre-stack buttons.

The Z4 did not suffer from what you are describing.

I was going to touch on this, as well.

When comparing the 228i cab and the Z4 sDrive28i, the question becomes whether you want back seats or not; however, now that the 228i is available with xDrive, it's a whole different story - it's no longer a summer's toy.

I'm not sure which way I'd go...the visual appeal of the Z4 is a little better than that of the 2-series (objectively; you'll get more cat-calls in a roadster than you would in a car that was operated on by this guy:
)

In the list of features included in the executive package adaptive headlights are mentioned twice.

Not a fan of the convertible concept either but having had a BMW convertible for a few weekends, I can concur that Bimmer knows how to build a sound chop top.

Weird, I used to be able to operate the roof in my old Z4, and that was the base model too.

objectively; you'll get more cat-calls in a roadster

I agree, either make it so a normal, adult human can sit back there for longer than around the block or just make it into a nice storage area. Vestigial back seats annoy me.....
Lighten up Francis.....

I had no issues with the Z4 in the winter. Other than some ground clearance but a 2er would have the same problem most likely.

I agree these small cabrios with the small rear seats looks awkward. Either go Z4 / SLK or get an E Cabrio.

That said the G37 convertible looked pretty good IIRC.

My neighbor has a white one and I agree. What a shame the G37 is no more.

I would probably take the Z4. It runs on an older electronic platform, but costs a bit less (configured to 43.420 € for a 20i) and turns more heads. Nice mountain cruiser.

The 220i cabriolet I built runs over 44 k€ and meh.....I haven't grown to love the look of the 2er. The pre-LCI 1er hatchback was fine, but the 2er just doesn't, look as right to me for some reason. mein.bmw.de/n7l8s3c5 <-yes you can copy and paste.

That's because there's four of them!

No that's not true.
