I can't speak to the XK, but have extensive experience with the XF:

Quote
Start your test-drive looking for warning lights and messages in the XK’s instrument cluster, which could be the result of a poorly-charged battery. Low battery voltage can cause a world of issues in a car like the XK, many of which aren’t typically daily driven.
Yeah, Lady Noto's dad's XF would fail to start if not driven within 4 days.  This happened ALL THE BLOODY TIME.  The battery is located in the trunk as well, as an FYI, so if you back into your garage like a good lil' boy or girl, it'll be much more difficult to boost.

Quote
Though rare, some owners have reported failed catalytic converters, possibly evidenced by a ticking or tapping sound as the car travels over bumps.
We experienced this as well.  Replaced under warranty and no recurrence of the problem.

Overall, we loved the 'Jag' and didn't find it to be unreliable despite the above.  The 5.0L V8 is great, but its fuel economy and the massive overall size of the car compared to tiny living quarters made the car too difficult to live with.

...hence why I'm excited for the XE - a smaller Jaguar!!!

The XKR was the first Jag I drove a few years ago.  It is the car that made me a big Jaguar fan.  Sure there are better looking cars.  Sure there are faster cars.  Sure there are much better built cars.  But the XK is just such a handsome and cool machine.  It's the sound of that supercharged V8 that sends shivers down the spine though.  Given Jaguar's past steep depreciation, a used XKR is something I've considered for myself in the future (at least for a short while).   :o

One of the best looking vehicles on the planet, to me, they are better looking than an Aston Martin......Jaguars legendary ability at building some of the most unreliable cars on the planet has always turned me off to them.
Lighten up Francis.....

Same here, that exhaust note is one of the best in the auto world IMHO.

Heck, that Jag is as good as yours.  Add it to your list of cars!

I haven't driven a Jaguar since 1974 when I drove an Xj12 and a V12 E-type for a couple of hours each in the same week.

I love the looks of this car but the "Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag" image......

Too many people on this forum worry about what others think of them/their cars.

I'm guilty of it with the Mustang too, but I'm still gonna buy one one day.

Eh, i n this case I think this a question of what my taste is. Although I agree it might be hard to dissociate.

You should have added the Jaaaag on there just for the screenshot.

Long gone :P

He drives a CX-5 now.  He has constant migraines and can't enjoy driving, so he now pays 1/3 of the lease payment and 1/8th of the fuel costs :P

He's looking for a 2004 Boxter in Palm Springs for his enjoyment (since down there, the weather bothers him less)

I still prefer the first XK. Looks cleaner IMO. A local dealer had a red '05 XKR coupe a few years ago. A truly beautiful car.

I was expecting the "what to watch out for" section to run for 5 or 6 pages but I guess Jaguar has cleaned up it's reliability issues to a considerable extent.   Jags used to be pretty lean sporting sedans but now they are as big and heavy as anything else.  Driving one used to be a sensual pleasure and I'm sure it still is but Jags are now one of many brands which provide this kind of experience.

I still wouldn't buy a used one any more than I would a BMW, Audi or MB.

Cheers,
John M.
