I couldn't do it.....buy a brand new V6 off the showroom floor, no way. With two vastly superior engines available and no track or Brembo package, no way. Its a great deal, but I'd rather save my empties for a 5L.

Sent from my Galaxy S3

I agree with you. But if we get a Mustang my wife will want to drive it so it means auto and I don't think I am ready for that. So if we buy an auto then she will be delighted with the V6 convertible and I will enjoy driving it times to times. With the 3.55 LSD it will even be fun on the track.

What I really want is the GT350. If you are going to pony up for a GT with track package and a couple of other options, heck might as well aim for the GT350!

For all the Ecoboost lovers, why not get a Focus RS instead? I know that is one Ecoboost I can consider buying.

Except the GT350 is going to cost way, way more than a GT with Track Pkg and options.

I am awaiting anxiously Ford pricing release... A GT premium with track pack is over $48k. It will not be a bad deal if the GT350 is $10k more than that. Have a hard time thinking it will be over $60k. As long as Ford does not look at the Z28 pricing...

If pricing is absurd, I might bite the bullet (get an automatic) and go for the SRT8 392.

Hard to imagine a car with things like carbon fiber wheels being reasonably priced.  Here's to hoping I'm wrong!

The Ecoboost has 75 or so fewer kgs over the front end compared to the GT.

I haven't seen any reviews yet of the Ecoboost with the track pack and manual. I think that'll be interesting.

Its the car the Genesis Coupe was meant to be I guess? A lot more history behind it though and probably wholly more competent out of the box (which it should be...given we're ~7 years on from the introduction of the GC and Ford's been at this a lot longer than Hyundai)

I tried a Genesis coupé with the manual and turbo engine. It was pretty good, but had a few little niggles. A bit of suspension tuning and IIRC the clutch uptake was high up in the travel. Nothing serious. Too bad they dropped it and went V6 only.

I think the carbon fiber wheels are on the GT350R only. That one is a bit too extreme for my taste.

The 'R' will be over $70K IMHO, the regular GT350 should be $10K or more cheaper.

I would hate to be rolled on by a new GTi so it is definitely v-8 or avoid for me.

Plus those seats look horrid.  Comfortable?

The new V6 will easily smoke a GTi.....

Not on a roll.  The GTi is as quick as an STi on a roll.  At least according to Motortrend.....

But that has more to do with gear ratio, as the roll tests they do are in top gear (if that's the type of roll you're referring to)

And C&D disagrees with you.  :)  http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2015-subaru-wrx-vs-2015-volkswagen-gti-final-scoring-performance-data-and-complete-specs-page-4

Actually, the EcoBoost isn't as quick as one would think either, at least according to AJAC.  The EcoBoost Mustang with the manual did 0-100km in 6.6 or 0.2 quicker than the GTi and 0.1 better from 80-120 kmh.

Easily smoke?  Question is what are you smoking?   :rofl2:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1409_2015_ford_mustang_ecoboost_23_first_test/

5.6 seconds to 60 for the Ecoboost automatic, quicker than they got with the GTI. I'm betting the manual will drop it another couple of tenths. The STI was quicker still. AJAC times tend to be pretty slow.

Being a rwd car, the Mustang can handle more hp and actually put it to the ground. Adding power to a fwd car just ends up in wheelspin.

I'm with the 5L crowd, the V6 here on its own is a great car and value in its own right.  But just knowing the V8 was out there would eat at me!  And the fact that Ford nerfed the option list just to push the ecoboost bugs me.

For the new V6 price, I would try and find a gently used (unmodified) GT, if it can be found!

RWD is the key here.  Good 0-60 time has a lot to do with traction off the line.  I don't like mag bench racing but C&D did test the GTI and got 5.8s and a 100 mph trap, so the new GTI is properly quick.  In fact in real world driving if GTI is equipped with DSG I think the V6 mustang will be the one getting smoked not the GTI, especially if the mustang has the crappy rear end ratio.  Add any sort of altitude above sea level and the V6 mustang doesn't stand a chance.

I don't get the concept of buying a MUSCLE car with the "least muscular" option available. V8 or nothing.

It's a pony car not a muscle car. Muscle cars were cars like the Chevelle intermediate with the 396 or 427 big block from the full size Impala.

Kinda of like a Challenger of today, which is in the Nimitz carrier weight class.

Yeah, I'd classify the Challenger as a muscle car. It's riding on a shortened full size Charger chassis and using the same engines.

I still have a soft spot for them for some weird reason.  :-\
