I would hate to be rolled on by a new GTi so it is definitely v-8 or avoid for me.

Plus those seats look horrid.  Comfortable?

The new V6 will easily smoke a GTi.....
Lighten up Francis.....

Maybe competitive straight line but my monies on the GTI cornering abilities.

Thats why at least the Ecoboost with the track pack makes sense. That one handles as well, has an LSD.....

I couldn't do it.....buy a brand new V6 off the showroom floor, no way. With two vastly superior engines available and no track or Brembo package, no way. Its a great deal, but I'd rather save my empties for a 5L.

Sent from my Galaxy S3

Let's see here. Base V6 is $25,349 and the base GT is $37,349. At $0.10/bottle, that is 5,000 cases of beer. If this is a viable savings route for you, well, we know who has all the parties!  ;D

While I agree thats a very solid argument........that 5L Coyote engine is an amazing piece of kit, I could not for the life of me not have one.

I'm with you though - I know I'd kick myself if I bought a new Mustang and didn't find the extra money to get to the V8.

I am REALLY curious to see what happens during the inevitable "employee pricing" sale.

this car is a great value... and the power is nothing to scoff at... you get "car guys" like us fawning over the fr-s due to rwd, manual, coupe style and just general true driving fun....

but then this car, with arguably as good or better looks (to some, not me, but some for sure), more power, comparable if not better in most other categories... but because their is a bigger engine available it is looked down upon...

i think if you ignore the other options available and put aside historical v8 numbers, this car is not only a deal, but just a darn good car.

and just to note... i generally hate mustangs.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Thats the thing though....there is no option with the FR-S...with the Mustang there is definitely a huge option to improve the car......

Another option should be the new 2.7L twin turbo, that would be a cool alternative. The blown 4 has to use premium which is 12-14 cents more a litre here in Guelph, that is a significant additional cost if your commute to work is anything over 50 km's each way. This car with any engine option is just a fantastic sporty car for the money. I thought you could get the performance pack with the last V-6? Regardless, good work Ford.

Brilliant idea. Hopefully one that Ford has considered. Sweet motor for the Mustang (or almost any Ford product actually).

For $28,899 you get 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque and a rewarding six-speed Tremec manual

It's the Getrag MT-82

The model tested had the 3:15 rear end.  $500 option gets you a 3:55 Torsen LSD.   Now your talking two different cars.

Actually requires 93 which in Ontario means 94 octane significantly more costly than 91.  If you fail to use 93 or above the engine is in permanent knock/detune so to speak.   :P

The 8 cyl if running 89 ocatane seems to be the choice if the normally aspirated 6 cyl just won't cut it.

I was introduced to the Mustang from this type of commercial in the 80s as a teenager, the Mustang will always be associated with the Five 0 in my head when it is mentioned.

Agreed. For a proper Mustang, it's V8 or bust. I ain't no secretary.

+1
The wife and I talked about a Mustang convertible for our Sunday's Go-Shopping car (before the arrival of the two boys), it would have to be the 5.0 V8, and AUTO. I rather have a Miata, S2000, ... than a V6/T4 Mustang Convertible.

Just read an article where they put bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, better intercooler, ECU tune) on the Ecoboost...and it cranked out 389TQ...to the wheels!
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Why not just buy the GT then?

Well that's 50-60 more RWTQ than the GT.  But yea..that's where I'm at.  However, if you did the mod in stages I can see why someone would want the EcoBoost as the GT costs a bit more.  My biggest let down would be the sound though.
