Went on a nice ride up the twisty and scenic Westside Road in West Kelowna yesterday. It was fun despite taking things slow. Can't wait til the spring when there's less sand on the roads and more traction with my tires.

Lots of big horn sheep on the way.

There are definitely some great Miata drives around the Okanagan. I recommend this route if you're ever heading into Kelowna. I drove it in my Mazda 3 on my way to a job site and it was an absolute blast.

I rode from West Kelowna up to La Casa where the 6808 Westside Road point is.

Looks really nice for December!

I've driven that stretch of road lots, but mostly with the truck and trailer.  :(  There's some fantastic dirt biking and camping a little ways up the Bear Main FSR. Always wanted to bring the 690E to enjoy some pavement as well, but never did.  :'(

It's wonderful. We did have a bit of snow in November followed by a week of sub -5 temperatures that kept me off the roads, but it's been mild and even balmy since. It does appear though that tomorrow might be my last day indefinitely with about a week of snow starting tomorrow night. Boo.

Thanks!

Well, ordered something for myself right after Christmas...

Cheesy wording

12g slider (~9 o'clock position) vs. stock 14g roller (~8 o'clock position)

Inside the scooter's CVT.

The highways were bare and dry, and it was only -1C, so I decided to test it out.

Thoughts:

  • The acceleration is pretty damn good. Not only is it noticeably faster, it's also a lot smoother.
  • Up a 6% hill, the speed's gone up from 60 (stock) to about 65. If I tuck up the same hill, it's gone up from 70 (stock) to 73.
  • On a slight downhill, I can only do 95 km/h fully tucked. Before, I could do 102. Lighter roller/slider weights = better acceleration but reduced top speed.
  • But it is winter, with winter gas and winter air densities. So premature to say anything right now.

Should have stayed with 14g (or 13g) sliders IMO.  Would have had better acceleration without sacrificing top end.

But great job!!  A nice, cheap mod too!

Maybe I should've? The store I bought it from (BuggyPartsNW, an authorized Dr Pulley dealer) only had 8g-13g though for the 20x12 sliders. If I can find another store that has reasonable shipping via USPS (not UPS, Fedex, etc.), I'd get a set of 14g sliders. 13g might work too. Someone on provoscooter said they had problems (oddly) with 13g in their Vino 125.

Tarzan here managed to maintain 60mph with 10.5g sliders...

Thanks though! It was fun.

I heard getting the OEM windscreen will add 3-5km/h of top speed back without tucking, in addition to cutting down on the wind buffeting. So that might be my next mod...

Itching to ride your PCX again? I had to go nearly 4 weeks without riding my scooter and it was hard.

I had it out one day.  And another when I was putting fuel/stabilizer in it.  But yea..itching to ride!!

I bet. Yea I went for a 30 minute ride a week and a half ago to get fresh fuel and stabilizer into the carb, also my battery tender is finally coming in the next couple of days. I didn't think I would need one but alas I need one.

Ooooo Dr Pulley performance variator...

Dr Pulley clutch...

I really like my Battery Tender!

Many riders seem to!

Oh I have to add that I'm ok with the reduced top speed because 1. Speed limits on roads I ride 99% of the time are 80km/h or less, 2. The lower weights seem to give better hill climbing speeds from what I concluded on the internet.

You stuck with stock weights for your sliders I'm assuming?

No.

I went with 13G..though I think 14G would have been perfect.  Stock is 16G.  My bike has a top speed limiter.  I STILL hit the limiter, so I didn't lose top end.

Ah yes. That darn limiter.

They're not expensive and it's easy to install at least.

Yes, for sure!

Like you, I'm not overly concerned about the limiter.  Most of the roads I travel are 80km/h max.  And the odd time I've been on the expressway or the 401, 110km/h was fine for the short duration.

Nice! Even if you are slower than most traffic, it's a multilane roadway where people can pass you. I personally feel more comfortable on multi lane roads vs. single lane roads.

So I commuted on my scooter yesterday. I was in the left lane for a few kms doing 90-100 passing traffic. I may order 13g sliders to give it a try but really I'm pretty happy with the results. Real world I think the 0-40 acceleration is perfect in the city, the 5 km/h faster hill climbing speed is certainly appreciated. If I'm going for better cruising and top speed, it's a question of how much of those things will I lose? On the flip side, my engine will run at a lower RPM at highway speeds with heavier weights which will be better for engine longevity.
