My parent like theirs quite a lot. My father test drove the usual suspects (Subaru, Mazda, CR-V) and preferred the Tiguan even if it came with fewer gadgets than the others, citing mainly the great engine and solid feel and handling. For them it was 30 k$ USD out the door, 3% tax inclusive.
I like it quite a lot too, with the big exception of the slushy/slack automatic gearbox sold in North America (rest of the world gets a 7-DSG).
Plus, it can't be all that bad; they're floating all over the place in Québec.
