Call me crazy (go ahead...), but:

Quote
For the first time ever, Honda has gone the turbocharger route for a road-going production sportscar. The result is a healthy 310 PS or 306 hp and 295 lb-ft being churned out by the 2.0L i-VTEC four-cylinder. What’s really caught our attention is the Type-R manages to reach peak hp and peak torque at a mind-boggling 2500 RPM. That translates into a real-world driver being able access all 306 hp instantly, provided they’re already rolling. The fun stops at a rather conservative-for-Honda 7000 RPM. Honda claims the Type-R runs from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a conservative estimate.
Something doesn't add up.  Maybe it's the FWD drivetrain robbing the 0-100km/h run, but the WRX with significantly less power, drivetrain losses, and peak figures coming on at higher-rpm means that this lil' bugger should go faster than that.

Perhaps the 2,500rpm is torque only and not hp?  That would make more sense, with peak hp coming on at 7,000rpm in a typical Honda-ish fashion.

Two reasons:

1) AWD vs FWD make a HUGE difference in the 0-60 sprint.

2) "I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a conservative estimate."

Also, since it's a turbo there should be lots of torque at low RPM.  I believe that 2500 rpm number,

Most automakers give fairly conservative acceleration estimates. I don't pay much attention to those numbers until someone like Car and Driver or Road & Track does actual instrumented testing.

Nice title, BTW.

Lol. Right.

T=(5252xHP)/RPM

So if you have 306 HP at 2500 RPM, the torque would be an unrealistic 643lb-ft.

Of course peak hp isn't at 2500rpm.  The relationship between torque, hp and rpm would make that impossible.  with 295 lb-ft of torque at 2500rpm, HP at 2500rpm is 190.  Assuming the torque curve is flat and the engine is still developing 295 lb-ft of torque at 5500rpm, the engine makes 308hp at that rpm.  I think it's likely that the torque curve drops off in the higher RPM's, therefore peak horsepower is likely at around 6000rpm, where torque would have dropped down to 268 lb-ft.  This is making a broad assumption about the torque curve, however.

Given the information provided, the only thing we can say for sure is that at 2500 rpm the engine produces 295 lb-ft of torque and 190 hp.

The 300hp segment is now ruled by AWD.
