Will be bought mostly by people with purse-dogs.  Will make tons of $$ for Porsche, but I'd never want one.

No purse dog in this family, but I'd still rock one if I was in the market for an SUV.

I've been at the dealer checking the macan out and I was told the diesel will actually cost more than the S. As for the 2l turbo.  It's already being built. I was also told it's coming in addition to the diesel.  Not sure I believe that.
Considering what can be done with a fully emissions compliant 2litre turbo four these days.  AMG, VAG and others do it why would the Macan not get one. Maybe it will be a CAFE car in NA and a taxation car in some EU countries but if it has >300 BHP, a torque curve that matches the DCT well AND meets the 2017 economy standards...why not.

Here's a fairly recent article that talks about the base Macan: http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/diesel-porsche-macan-s-headed-united-states-next-year

There's little incentive for Porsche to bring the Macan to NA anytime soon since the car is pretty much sold out for the foreseeable future.

Just curious as to why?

Since nobody else has praised Pritch for his incredible articles and video, I will.

Particular praise goes to the video, which showed snow-drifting in a CUV.  WHEEEEEE!  I like the full-stops, then gunning-it starts.  Hell, I just love your sunglasses.   :-*

I have mixed feelings about the Macan. With the right colour, wheels, and options, this thing looks amazing...and obviously perferms at Porsche levels.

The problem is that the few I saw, and the ones I suspect will be the volume leaders, were the base versions with small wheels and in white or grey...not very inspiring.

I'd love to see one in guards red.
I love it when a plan comes together.

^^ Small wheels? What's that, like 18"? :stick:

I've priced one of these out and would be perfectly happy with a very base model. Can't remember exactly, but a bit extra for nicer paint was one option I'd take. A few grand over base would be fine for me, including the base wheels. :)

Still, not something I'm totally drooling over. It would be more of a compromise vehicle because my wife loves to sit up high in these jacked-up CUV things. Me, I'd be way happier in a Golf R (all the more so because manual transmission.)

All relative...21" wheels are an option. Personally I like the Sapphire Blue Metalic paint which is only an extra $790...actually good value as far as paint options go

I looked at the Macan last year. The base stereo system is really crappy, and it does need at least 19" wheels to look suitably aggressive. But apart from that, I agree that it doesn't need a lot of options. I really like the alcantara on the base seats, too, although I wonder if the 14- or 18-way seats are better for back support on long drives.

http://www.autoblog.com/2014/10/14/porsche-macan-fails-moose-test-video/

There was a big flap when the Cherokee failed the moose test, but nary a peep when the Macan failed it.

I'm not entirely sure about the validity of the test. A tall vehicle, with a high centre of gravity is always going to handle worse than something closer to the ground. Suspension tuning, however good, still can't defy physics.

I've driven a few SUV / crossovers now, and I gotta say, I can't remember driving another one that can handle like the Macan S I drove does.  (I consider the GLA 45 a hot hatch)

Those suggesting the Macan is nothing more than a purse-dog carrying fashion device with no visceral merit have clearly not driven it.  I think the Cayenne is good but wildly over-priced and I would happily choose several other vehicles before that, but the Macan is awesome sauce in its driving manners.
