For my money I think I'd be looking at either the GLA AMG (if I didn't care about rear seat space and cargo) or the Grand Cherokee SRT (if I cared about rear seat space and cargo capacity).  No doubt this Macan is a excellent CUV, probably the best really, but when you factor in price and options it really starts to lose it's luster.  When are they going to come out with just a regular Macan with a turbo 4 cylinder?  Hopefully around $45K, and have a manual as an option and I'd give this a real look.

Goes to show that a well-balanced vehicle performs well even if road conditions are snowy or less than ideal. You can't fake it......

Reminds me of my old E83 X3. The system and chassis was inherently set up for a balanced, lively feel that was great if you enjoyed driving. It would oversteer if you turned out of a snowy intersection and weren't careful, DSC was generally light on its intervention. Unnerving for my mother when she drove, but very very easy to control and amusing for me as a driver.

That model is apparently coming but I don't think it will be sold in NA. There's been talk that the upcoming diesel Macan will be the "base" version in the U.S. and Canada.

I think I have a new fav SUV for under $60,000 (replacing the Evoque). Sounds like the AWD system is brilliant - proactive and smart, vs reactive and dumb. Although Porsche prices their options ludicrously ($1900 for a panoramic roof?), the $1,115 freight charge is about the lowest in the industry in Canada. All in all, great value, and for someone who puts a premium on driving a Porsche, fantastic value.

I'm hearing good things about the NX200t.  I wonder how it stacks up to a Macan, aside from the power difference.

I'm thinking it stacks up about as good as all Lexus products have against Porsche products.  As in not well at all.  NX200t probably a fine luxury SUV, but it will not come close to the performance and handling compared to the Macan.

I would think this would come up as competition for that Volvo V60 Polestar?

The model tested must be the most lightly optioned Porsche in history. Less than 20% above the base price compared to the typical 40...

I've been at the dealer checking the macan out and I was told the diesel will actually cost more than the S. As for the 2l turbo.  It's already being built. I was also told it's coming in addition to the diesel.  Not sure I believe that.
Considering what can be done with a fully emissions compliant 2litre turbo four these days.  AMG, VAG and others do it why would the Macan not get one. Maybe it will be a CAFE car in NA and a taxation car in some EU countries but if it has >300 BHP, a torque curve that matches the DCT well AND meets the 2017 economy standards...why not.
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

If I was in the market for an SUV at $60k, this would most definitely be it.
