I have to say that MB hit all the high points on this one.  The exterior design doesn't look as contrived as other 2015 models and the 4Matic should be a huge seller provided they actually market it properly.

Other than the Subaru alternatives, this is the only tourer in the segment with AWD.  Kia, Hyundai and Mazda don't have the option and neither will the BMW Active Tourer when it is released.

Like the looks of these plus the functionality. Now that they added 4-matic to this I'll add it to my 'next car' list.

I think this is a WAY better car than the GLA.

The B250 wasn't a bad car in 2013.   The 4-matic and the extra electronic goodies do it no harm at all.  Although many people called it a van it was hardly any bigger in any direction that my Mk V Golf GTI  so it IS a hatchback.

It's certainly more practical.

I think it mostly just looks like a van.  A mini mini van at that.

Pretty cool practical rig....But I think I'd choose a GTI over it.

Alex, I'll take Hatchbacks that look like mini, mini vans for $100.

Nice a small AWD  hatchback/wagon.  I rented a car last week for a business trip and enterprise gave me a MB C300 Awd. It was my first time driving a Benz,  what a nice drive that car was! It was snow storm on QE2 and black ice everywhere,  the 4 matic is really nice.

From direct experience when the transmission was in Sport mode it was as fast as the Mk V GTI with DSG that I had, maybe a tiny bit faster in the midrange 'cos of the extra gear in the transmission...difficult to say. Very nearly as fast around the bendy bits ( both cars were above my limit of staying in the seat).

If those idiots at VW had introduced the GTI MK VII here at the same time as it was introduced in Germany SO WOULD I have bought another GTI.  ( And if mrs tpl's leg/foot had gone wrong before I bought the B250 I probably would have bought the Q5 instead a year earlier)

"There aren’t many direct competitors of this type on the market now"

I believe because the market for such a vehicle is low. I for one feel that this sort of money could be better spent on more car vs entry nameplate.

When I saw the B, my first thought was "why, MB, why, FWD, when you have the excellent 4-matic system that would be the icing on the cake with this product?"

They heard me!

The rear seat has even more room than your Berlin taxi (at least that's what they claim).
So yeah, very practical rig. May not look as rugged as an S(C)UV but longer term it would give a more satisfying experience than the GLA.

In terms of a practical MB, it's probably the most appealing product by far.  Economical operation, 4-matic, hatch-back body, etc, etc.

As the A-class in Eu had 4-matic with a very similar engine and transmission I suspect that a competent M-B indie could have fitted the 4-matic to the B250.   I suspect that MB always meant to do it and just waited until the GLA and CLA were announced and then just made them all 4-matic capable all at once.

I'm not so sure MB has their entry level cars sorted yet. Lots of unreliability and assembly issues seem to plague them.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
