I got bored of this vehicle from the time it launched. Honda needs to really reconsider the beak.

I much prefer the styling of the previous gen, more sporty and aggressive looking, less generic.  I've always wanted one of these in my garage.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

I don't see a "beak" either.

Nice photo's taken from the parking garage of Square One in Mississauga especially with the Absolute World  condominium twin towers in the background.

I like the softened front but still not a fan of the grill band. Leary of any new transmissions and would rather sit a wait on real world feedback.

Nothing seems wrong with the new MDX but I can't say that it evokes enough pizzazz that would make it a front runner in the class.

Nice writing Jeff.  I prefer the styling of the Audi Q7 & Q5.  The styling of the Acura is good as well (after the 2010 refresh), and this new gen.  I also prefer the reliability, cost of ownership, and pricing of the Acura vs the Audi.  Unlike most people, I would only consider this type of vehicle if AWD was a priority, and for towing.  2 things the Odyssey doesn't have (well much less towing anyway).  And I wouldn't even consider the Pilot.  The current gen dates back to 2009.  We will see when the new Pilot comes, will probably have the Earth Dreams V6, and "upgrade" to the 6 speed transmission.

Not sure why the Ford Flex is considered a competitor to a luxury brand.  Nothing from Cadillac or Lincoln?

I was trying to list competitors that could be available in 7-passenger configurations, figuring that was one of the big pluses of the MDX.  It's certainly not to say someone wouldn't or couldn't cross-shop an SRX or MKX -- the list is really, really long.

I wonder if Vman noticed the Vman reference in the write up.  ;)

Mrs. ipolski is perfectly happy with ours in Tech trim after more than 30k km.  The real test was last summer's 12k km trip back east, and MDX passed the test with flying colours, exceeding all expectations.

Wow, 12k trip.

Seeing your picture makes me miss being able to put our dog kennel facing out.  Can't do that with our CR-V like we could with our old Pilot.

Hehehe, good eye :)  The "work in progress" is probably the closest to the truth.

We have a 2014 MDX tech as the family hauler.  We did some 10 hour plus drives with the kids and it's a wonderfully comfortable and quiet ride.  We had considered the competitors (Germans) but the value and reliability were strong factors in our decision.  It's not the best looking and the most engaging drive but it works well.  My major gripe is that the touch screen functionality is distracting when trying to alter simple tasks as seat heaters, fan speed, air flow and synchronizing the tri-zone temperature - this all takes two to three touches which takes your eyes off the road longer.  Our next won't have a  built in DVD player.  Kids keep fighting about what they want to watch...certainly not a stress reducer.

One interior quality lapse that reared its head: at the end of its week with Autos.ca, the climate control “buttons” on the touchscreen repeatedly flickered on and off during the trip back to Acura, suggesting that either the MDX was sad to be leaving us, or there was some sort of a software glitch in the system.
aww, too cute.

Great article, Jeff!  Still, 9-speed auto = no go for me.

Acura's new dual touchscreen thing is frickin awful. In fact I hate all touchscreens in cars. Its a terrible trope.

If I wanted an MDX I would be looking for a 2013 tech/elite model. Save some bucks too.

You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I think the MDX is still a great pick in the mid-sized lux-ish CUV segment.

When the Honda Pilot comes out at the Toronto Auto Show, I wonder if it will have pricing.  It will be interesting to see how they compare.  A near top trim/top trim Pilot with leather, to a base model MDX.

"...Acura’s upsized SUV is all about and what people love about it. Indeed, the MDX is a well-conceived, well-designed and very well built machine for larger families led by parental units with egos too fragile to buy an even more practical Honda Odyssey. Or maybe those too self-important to be seen in a more affordable Honda Pilot."

LOL...hilarious line.    IMHO, the MDX is the best all round mid-size SUV for the money, and it would be my choice for wifey if we were not so happy with our Odyssey (2nd one).
