Agreed but there is little cost between cheap alloys and steel wheels. If $200 is going to break the bank you should be taking the bus

Uh-huh - because everyone is an urban-dwelling single person with flexible work hours and money to spare because of "looks"....

Let me see if I understand - there are some posters arguing that the 20" alloy wheels should be kept on all winter in salt caked, filthy, slushy, pothole ridden road conditions for "appearance" purposes?  ;D

^ Man, I think this is the 3rd thread this season about alloys vs steelies.  I will never have steelies, never had a leak, but also don't use cheap alloys.  It just looks stupid especially on luxury cars to be seen 5 months of it in cheap black steelies, that usually after the 4th year have rust on them.  My neighbour has had a BMW 5 series, and now a MB E350 both have had black alloys for the winter.  And my idea of washing the car is, once a month!

The only thing that have steelies is the Odyssey, as it is an LX, and has hubcaps.  And don't tell anyone, when I bought the van, I didn't feel like getting winters.  So I am using the all-seasons this year, and next fall, getting the same all-weathers my Nissan had, which work pretty good.  If I am really concerned about traction with the snow & ice, I take the Mazda, with OEM alloys and Continental Extreme Wintercontact winter tires...

Alloys look better and if you're driving your car for 5-6 months in winter why not pony up to look good?

You don't have to but I did.

Best thing about steelies to me is that they are cheaper and they look better. Just my opinion of course.

I've rocked cheap alloys for the last 10 yrs in the winter (6th winter for my current set of cheap Sport Editions on the WRX).  No signs of corrosion and I rarely wash my car EVER in the winter.   At most once every 6-8 weeks I'll take it through a no touch gas station wash.

I think the difference in price between my 4 alloys vs 4 steelies at tirerack was about $100.   Hard to justify NOT spending that small difference when you'll have these wheels on 40% of the year and you just dropped almost $40k on the car.

If this were a review for a Kia Rondo or some other inexpensive transportation, maybe I'd feel differently.

YMMV

I don't like the looks of stealies, so I put on a set of wheel covers.  Works for me.

I am with Evil here.   Even to the extent of the rare winter washes!    Mrs tpl's Fit lives all year on black steelies...she neither cares nor even notices.

So sell your alloy rims, and use steelies all year.

I didn't say they looked better than larger OEM alloys.

Ok.   The way it reads though, "is they are cheaper and look better".  Forgive me if I was confused.. I don't change tire size in the winter...

I am quite happy with my venza, my is a '13 V6 awd premium which I think it is a not bad price/equipment ratio.  I get this to replace my loved Passat wagon 2.0T...I don't know why everyone blame the interior material of the venza.  Its not top quality for sure, but ok for me as mid price car.  Build quality is another story...  :surrend:  misaligned piece, big gap.....  Anyway, if I have to choose again, Venza is still high on my list as there were actually no other wagon with AWD available for my budget.
My Passat

My venza with 17 winter....

Another interesting note, the venza is almost the same in height as my passat...

^^^ Heresy!!!    This is a car forum. It is normal to change cars before they are worn out.

Just curious if it was just for kicks, or some typical FGC problems...

I always wanted to go back 4WD (my car previous to this passat is the older Passat 4 motion)after needed to dig my car from stuck in snow storm.. Another big reason is after I spend about 2 grands for timing belt, water pump.... I found this in the engine.  All I want to do is to sell it as soon as I can when it was running normally.

I gonna add, that 2.0T passat is a very good ride, I really liked it a lot.  If not those big scary item, I would be sure keep it longer.

You just google 'FSI CAM PLUG' and tons of pic or info there...

Lets stay back with Toyota Venza.  To my point of view, it is not back as a mid price wagon replacement...
The other only choice would be Volvo or BMW...
