Kudos to Kia for giving consumers more choice and a good looking refresh on a mature product (minivans).

Too bad Kia doesn't want to offer value conscious Canadians a choice in the low content entry level minivan market.
I am sure if Kia could get a model down to $20,999 with captains middle row seats and it would offer a choice and competition to Dodge. SO I agree with writer that we will see very few new Kia minivans on the streets and lots of new Dodge end of model line 2015s.

tough call whether to bastardize the target they have for the brand (more upscale) or stick to last generations view of the brand as a value/cost leader...

looks like a nice van. kia doing what they do... study the competition and either copy or improve what they can... usually at a lower price point though... so that will be a tough sell especially on a car that people won't get confused with a bentley or mercedes like their attempts in the sedan market... in the end, it will always look like a van... a kia van.

I'd rather buy a certified preowned minivan with power sliders and auto climate for $21k than a brand new van with barely any features and creature comforts.

I've seen a couple of new Sedonas on the road. It won't get Grand Caravan like sales numbers but it just has to compete with Odyssey, Sienna, and Town & Country.

The new Sedona has been receiving favourable road tests. I really like it...fits my sensibilities in a van. But Chrysler's stow-and-go seats resulting in a low flat floor is hard to beat.

It seems like a really nice offering, but I am only concerned about the detractions from the niceties that make a minivan so utilitarian.

...but it looks really good and offers a head-to-head-to-head alternative to the fancy twins.  Chryfi itself is killing off the cheap-GC, so it seems like moving to fill the budget spot would have been smart, but likely not as profitable unless they could strip one down to the low $20ks well-equipped.

+1.

As a family guy on his 3rd minivan, looking at the Sedona at the Montreal Auto Show I kept wondering where all the interior room went  ??? Overheard conversations went the same way - old guys liked it, families were seen just shaking their heads, leaving the Kia stand on the way to the Honda / Toyota / FCA display.

it would be nice if they would do road tests on more mid-range models instead of the top end all the time, that's the only model I've ever seen on a review on this new product and then it always ends up with more conversation and arguments on the price than anything else.

Pricing at the bottom end vs the old model has not changed (in fact its less)  its the top end where they have expanded offering more models and more features that were never available before and also changing around the features at various trim levels:

For 2014 there was four models (LX, LX Covenience, EX, EX Luxury) and prices range from MSRP of $28,695 to $40,095
For 2015 there is now seven models (L, LX, LX+, SX, SX+, SXL, SXL+) and prices range from MSRP of $27,495 to $45,995.

In the 2014 Sedona, if you wanted leather you had to get the EX Luxury at $40,095, now you can get in in the SX+ at $35,995;
power sliding doors - 2014, the EX at $37,095, for 2015 the LX+ at $32,395
power drivers seat - 2014 the EX model and 6-way at $37,095; 2015 8-way and standard on the LX model at $29,995
power passengers seat - 2014 the EX Luxury at $40,095; 2015 8-way and standard on the LX+ at $32,395
17" alloys - 2014 stand on the EX at $37,095; the 2015 its standard on the LX at $29,995
lots of other variations its hard to even compare it to the old model with regard features.

That rear end looks soo Siehish. But who cares? We all know that KIA is the design stealler.

why do they need to "steal" designs when they have one of the worlds best auto designers working for them - Peter Schreyer, you will probably find now in some cases its the other way around.  This looks the same????????

I drive a minivan for it's versatility, and I cannot begin to count the number of times I have needed that cavernous cargo area. Having owned many in the past where I have had to remove the seats (bad enough if you can do it before you leave home, impractical if you are out), shopping them is very simple to me:

Do all the seats disappear into the floor?

No?

Next.

That's a 1998-2000 with those taillights. They switched to clear style taillights in 2001 and moved the turn signal  to the bottom portion. Also, the LE was supposed to come with silver painted bumper and cladding. And there's supposed to be 3"strip of silver painted cladding along the bottom of the liftgate. The CE came with unpainted bumpers and cladding and no cladding on the liftgate. Either this one was in an accident, or maybe the LE models in the US are different. But that's still a crummy looking LE.

I have been completely underwhelmed with the direction he took Kia.  I was expecting far more.

Agreed and probably due to the lack of budget, design, and engineering resources he had ad Audi.

Stow n Go seats are handy for sure but you pay price in terms of comfort. I'd rather take the comfortable seats and deal with the small inconvenience of removing the seats when needed.
