I appreciated that the Pilot actually looked like an SUV but it looks like that is not true for the new model.

Yup. Pathfinder, Traverse and siblings, Highlander, etc. are just minivans with normal doors and less cargo and 3rd row passenger space.

I assume this will use the same 3.5L with VCM, but add a 6 speed transmission like in the Odyssey.  Maybe some weight savings...

They also offer all-wheel drive unlike most minivans.

...and the problem with that is...?

My brother has a 2015 Sienna XLE AWD.  Cost him $42k+tax.  Loads of space, AWD, 7 seats, etc.

...but to him, it's hard to drive/park (too big for him) and sucks fuel like an SUV.  He said that until he has a third kid, he doesn't need all that space and would have preferred a CUV with 3 rows for occasional use.  Give it another month and he'll be happy with the van choice, but in the meantime, he's struggling with it.

Are those CUVs any easier to drive and park?

Pic looks like it could be the next gen. Odyssey.

I agree.  I'd rather the Pilot remain boxy and rugged looking.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Hard to park, maybe he should not be driving  ::)

I got used to my Odyssey inside of a month.  And I was driving a compact (Mazda Protégé) before.

Maybe the turning circle viewpoints ate better on the Odyssey?

My old 99 Sienna with a 12.2m turning circle was terrible, it turned me into a stereotypical Asian driver. My current Odyssey is 11.5m and it surprisingly made a huge difference despite being a bigger van

The new Sienna and Odyssey are 11.4m and 11.2m respectively. I've only test driven a newer Sienna SE on the open road and didn't attempt to park it.

...and the problem with that is...?

You get the bad parts of a minivan (size, fuel consumption) without having the good parts of a minivan (3rd row comfort, cargo room).

What were you expecting it to look it?  It will look like a larger version of the CR-V, which it does...although I think this looks a bit closer to a minivan.  I think it needs one of the bars blacked out on the grille like the CR-V though.

Shifter is pretty unique though...

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...
