was at a local dealer yesterday checking out a new Colorado...they had a nice black Extended Cab Z71 model...didn't drive it (they offered), but it did look quite nice...when we got home, we checked online...noticed the price difference between the extended cab and the crew cab (assuming you get the V6), is only $1200...it was something like $4500 with the Frontier...now we think we will go crew cab instead of extended cab...overall length is the same, you just lose a foot in the box, but gain the extra interior room...wasn't interested in crew cab for $5k, but for $1200, seems like a no brainer.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

I seen one parked at the dealership roadside for a couple days.
Now there's none visible on the lot if you're just driving by.

I don't understand how come there's ZERO marketing on these new trucks (from what I've seen)

I haven't even seen any ads (tv, newspaper) showing the new trucks yet.

it may have to do with the fact they are just trickling into dealerships now...we didn't take one for a drive, but will revisit them in the spring (when hopefully some good deals are on, which GM is known for)...it is quite likely we will get this over the Frontier now.

They are in newspaper ads, seen them in the Toronto Star.  I find it strange as well, when new vehicles come out, takes more than 6 weeks sometimes to see ads.  Not sure when the dealerships got them.  And I don't mean 3-5 each.

most dealerships around here have 1-2 each (if that)...when i spoke with the sales guy, he said they are just starting to trickle in now, so come spring time, it is likely there will be a good selection on the lots at that point...they seem to sell the few they get in too, because i usually see the one sitting out front is gone about a week later (replaced with another).

I thought I spotted the first at our local dealership at least 3 weeks ago.  Maybe I'm wrong.

why not test it now?
taking it out in the snow would make for a really good test.   I'd try and take it out!!!!

Yeah definitely, I prefer to test drive in bad weather. Just don't get in an at fault accident.

I haven't even seen any ads (tv, newspaper) showing the new trucks yet.

Super bowl had Colorado adds, which in my mind is essentially advertising the same truck as in most cases they are sold side by side but have slightly different trims and options.
They even gave one away to the MVP, although he proceeded to give to the guy who made the game winning interception.

In a world where the dead are returning to life, the word "trouble" loses much of its meaning.

i am not worried about its capabilities in the weather, it has been very well reviewed there...my wife would prefer to drive it closer to when we are going to buy one, and would prefer to not have her first drive in bad road conditions...she feels that she would need some time to get used to driving it, and doesn't want to get it now partly because of that.

I understand on not being concerned on capabilities.   (I've learned to value my ground clearance when I really didn't original care for it at all).   I can also understand how your wife feels.   Mine became a slightly scared teenager at the wheel for the first time when she tried the truck  LOL.

But what I do mean by taking advantage of the weather, is both trucks (the twins and Frontier) will likely offer different little dynamics you may not notice in good weather but notice in the winter.
they're little things that could help decide.
views become more important, driving dynamics stick out a little more.  Mirrors, heating, defrost, freezing wippers, windshield washing, etc....   little things, but there's a chance you might notice something about this in the winter you wouldn't otherwise.

One thing you notice driving an empty pickup in winter is how awful the weight bias is over rate the front axle. Being front drive most of the time, the Ridgeline makes this problem ago away. I'd be curious to test the chassis balance in the Canyon in winter relative to my Sierra and RL.

she's the one who is pushing for the truck, so i just leave up to her to decide which she is most comfortable with...i wouldn't be uncomfortable testing it in the snow, but as i said, we won't be likely in the market for a few more months, so at the same time, i'd hate to waste the salesperson's time right now...one nice thing about the GM truck is it has an Auto mode for the 4wd system (similar to how the Ridgeline can do it)...it still has a dial with positions for 2H, 4H and 4L, but also includes an Auto setting so you can just set it on Auto and let it do its thing (which, when tested by TFL Truck guys, worked very well)...i was a little concerned about the full manual setting and how i could see her driving home one day and complaining about the weird noises it made, only to discover it was on 4H or something like that on dry pavement (because she forgot to turn it off earlier).

the diesel will likely be a decent choice for heavy users...but we don't put a lot of mileage on our vehicles, and i am going to imagine the price premium for said engine option will likely be a few thousand dollars...potential repair costs also scare me.

Leave snow accumulate in the bed. Weight distribution automatically self corrects with increased snowfall.  ;D

I knew a guy who would buy a cheap waterbed mattress.  He'd throw it in the bed and fill with water.  It would freeze...and that was his pickup truck bed weight for the season.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Now they have a $300 thing that does exactly that...
