It's like every company saw Tesla's success and thinks they have to copy them

"EV's have to be big and wide, have goofy doorhandles and giant screens. Cost is no object as people will pay whatever we ask"

Well EV sales are not doing too bad at Ford.

US numbers YTD: EV sales up 57.6%, Hybrids up 49.3%, ICE down 0.5%

Look at the line on F150 Lightning! Up 160% for the month, 86.5% YTD.  :o

So why the big discounts if sales are up so much?  Not meeting forecasted sales I guess and too much inventory.  And they're losing money on every unit sold, so the more they produce the more they lose?
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Well none of that's good since Ford apparently loses about $44k per EV sold!

I know, but we keep hearing that EV’s are not selling. Fact is, they do sell.

Now, I fully agree that Ford and others have a huge challenge to make them profitable.

The massive discounts and Ford canning some big EV plans are sure enough to signal all is certainly not well in EV land at Ford. Anything will eventually start selling as they pile on the incentives, certainly not an ideal business model but the domestics have been doing that for decades.

A local dealer still has some NEW 2022 Mach E's. 2025 models are hitting ground......anyone want a new 3 yr old car?

With enough bribery, you could put 4 wheels on a turd and it would sell....

As we've seen in the past both here and other countries, when the bribery is removed sales drop to next to nothing.

They sell...but not on their own merit.

Factory and dealers rebates sure can explain some of the volume increase. The subsidies not so much, they’re not any better than last year.

If you take away the subsidies do you think EV vehicles sales would nose dive?

Yes they would, for sure. But subsidies being the same as last year can’t explain a 60% yoy sales volume increase. Availability, dealer and OEM rebates yes.

Yea, I think post Covid availability is the big reason.

There won't be bidding wars for EVs these days.

Wonder if part of the problem is auto executives being paid so much nowadays they can't understand why vehicles starting at $60,000 are not automatically huge sellers

If you make a million a year that is almost pocket change

Lots of Silverado EVs popping up all over, all contractor trucks too. Not seeing a lot of non-Lighting F150's these days either. And Tesla outsells everything. Yes, QC is quite different but as the provincial subsidies are cut in half next year, I bet there's a boost in EV sales at the moment. The impending federal election will probably add to the rush, as no one expects mini-trump to keep the federal EV incentives (he's dead last in QC polls, no wonder). Ditto Tesla rushing in Chinese-made Y's and 3's pre-tariffs.

They've always been overpaid (US execs, anyways)
