Where I posted a couple of days ago about all the EV's especially Tesla in Oslo and Bergen Norway, we are in Edinburgh Scotland today and not a Tesla to be found and few EV's period

I saw quite a few of these things in England though.

Straws in the wind?? Beginning to look more like a full on stampede out of the EV space. A few days ago Ford's announcement to re-purpose it's EV plans in Oakville to instead produce Ford Heavy Duty trucks and now this. Only Robotaxis with full self driving will rescue EVs.

Quote
After breaking ground in 2023, the company building a plant to produce battery components for electric vehicles in a municipality near Kingston, Ont., says it's delaying construction of the plant citing a slowdown in EV sales.

In a statement to CBC News, Umicore Rechargeable Battery Materials Inc. said Friday that its project in Loyalist Township is impacted by the "significant worsening of the EV market context and the impacts this has on the entire supply chain."

The project carried a total price tag of up to $2.76 billion and was projected to create 600 jobs in the region back in 2023. According to a news release at the time from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, the federal government was slated to invest up to $551.3 million

The province was to pay up to $424.6 million, but a source familiar with the project said that as of Friday, no provincial money has flowed to Umicore.

Quote
The company said it's realigning its operations "to the new market reality," :rofl2: adding that a part of accomplishing this involves a "thorough review" of its battery materials business.

And double that by the end of 2024! Dealers are having trouble moving them so deeper discounts are sure to come. Resale values tanking, lease residuals down……

Could this bankrupt Ford?

Remember EV-Light (aka Taurii) preaching that Toyota was way behind the 8 ball on EV vehicles and would be left behind by Ford/Hyundai? Where is that guy now?

Edit:  Just had a look, he was last active yesterday.  He sure is quiet these days.

Wait, isn’t the Tauri guy the one who’s towing a travel trailer with a Ford Lightning claiming it’s the greatest thing ever?

With the way the EV market collapsed like some sort of house of cards, can you blame him for not being more vocal.....

No, that's the former Smart Electric, now know as "bye".  Or at least the recent posts.

Taurii, or EV-light, or whatever his name is, was from Manitoba.  He also bought a Lightning, maybe had a travel trailer, but I didn't think so.  I think he was towing a SxS to the lake or something like that.  Also had the V6 Mustang at one point that he claimed was a V8.

I kept trying to tell everyone that Toyota (and most every manufacturer with enough $$) could build EVs, but there was no money in them without massive subsidies. Money losers. So many demurred on going all in.

The EV market collapsed? Growth has slowed in the US but still growing. Canadian market still strong. Is it growing as fast as OEM thought it would? For sure no, but it did not collapsed.

Sorry, when the big boys, Ford, Chev, and Toyota pretty well have abandoned the EV market, to me, thats not a good sign. These boutique manufacturers, Tesla and such, are not really the coal mine in the canary for me.

GM abandoned the EV market?

General Motors Sold A Record Number Of EVs In Q2 2024

After a long and painful road, GM's grand Ultium plan is finally paying off. EV sales were up 40% year-over-year, and 34% over last quarter. And the General's just getting started.

General Motors went from having one EV (Bolt) to having the Hummer twins, Lyriq, Silverado, and Blazer EV. Sales had better increased!

You forgot the Equinox EV. Who could conclude that by launching six new EV models GM was somehow “abandoning “ the EV market?  ??? ??? ???

Fun read on Auto 123 (FR) of my colleague Michel Crepault's EV trek in Maine. He was driving a GV60 through touristy areas that are very familiar to me, and ended up on a treasure hunt for working charging stations. Spent 7.6 hours in the daytime charging up during a one week trip. The contrast with the QC infrastructure - where even tiny villages have fast chargers - is stunning. He had enough charghing locations, but most did not work. A 120V overnight charge at his AirBnB did about nothing.

If you're just following the major highway corridors (93, 95), things are probably fine (?), but if you're actually enjoying the areas instead of driving through them, it does not work. Yet.

Quite the contrast with my similar vacation in my PHEV, except I was not able to charge at all in QC because nothing was available when I needed / could use them (and no 120V outside at my rental place).
