These are the good old days of affordable performance cars.

Indeed!  Varying levels of power and drive options with prices from $30-45K give us great machines like the Miata, FR-S, GTI/Golf R, WRX/STi, Focus ST/RS and also the 300hp "base" Camaro/Mustangs.  All great enthusiast machines!!

+1. Let's hope Ford will resist to price it above $45k. This seems to be a bit more extreme than a Golf R so it could be priced higher.

Looking at how comparable pricewise the ST is to the GTi, I'd expect the R and Rs to cost about the same.

Somewhere in Japan, 10 years down the road, someone brings a Ford Focus RS in on a trailer to a performance shop.  Looks like this one has been salvaged.  Guy at performance shop says "Focus RS no $hit.  This car will decimate all on the mountains at drift wars.  But only after you put in about a couple of million yen into it with overnight parts from America...."

Lol.  I couldn't resist.  Still pretty excited to see this car.

I am a little disappointed Brembo brakes are used only for the front. Might as well do it on all 4 corners considering the car's overall technology and targeted customers.

Why, the back ones won't be taxed that hard..  If they made decisions like that everyone would be moaning about the price.

So the RS isn't going to be available until Spring of 2016...does anyone else get the sense that Ford may be revealing all the info and building up expectations prematurely?  The RS looks like it is going to be fantastic - but with such a long build-up to its actual release, that's going to be an awful lot of hype to live up to!  I know VW has been talking up the Golf R for a while too, but it's going to be available ~ full year earlier than the RS.

Maybe Subaru will go the opposite tack, and just drop in a WRX/STi hatch without all this premature hoopla!  (A WRX hatch again? Dreaming, I know...  >:()

I agree that it's a pretty fascinating marketing practice to introduce new cars many months before they are available. We've seen it done with success (Corvette) and with less success (Acura NSX) and then look at Ford who just dropped the new GT all of the sudden – Boom. I think we're mostly witnessing car companies trying to figure out how best to do it.

Because of the look is what most people will argue.  Personally, I don't care about the look.  I do have a 4 wheel BBK on my 300ZX but only because the back ones would have worn out a lot faster than the front given my track use.

The look is one reason (because it does look stupid) but it was not my main concern. Putting Brembo brakes in front only makes me wonder if this is a marketing stunt to be able to do use the brand name in the publicity while the braking system design is half-baked. Brembo does design braking systems for car companies but I doubt they would put their name on a design that is only for the front wheels. If I buy a car with Brembo brakes I will expect that it is better than just slapping "off-the shelves" part together like an aftermarket kit...

Here's something for you: the Brembo brake package on the 350Z and G35 barely performed better than the standard brakes.  I can pretty much guarantee that other aftermarket kits out do those Brembos.  I know for a fact that the Stoptech 13" kit for that platform greatly improves the braking over stock or Brembos.  AP Racing or Wilwood are very good as well.  My personal preference is with AP Racing.  Way better pedal feel and way better for preventing pad knock back.  It's pretty scary experience having pad knock back when coming up fast on a turn...

Funny you should say that. In the latest comparison test between the Subaru WRX STI and the Golf R, the former of which have Brembos, they noted fade on their test track but none with the Golf R.  Years ago, Brembos from the factory were a big thing.  Not so much any more.
Yup.  But there are lots of factors too.  What selection was made for the pad and rotor composition?  Was that a Brembo or auto manufacturer decision?
