Okay, a touch of irony in there - it's hard to spot.

People travel to buy - so you never know.  I bought a Porsche in Toronto.

JohnnyMac, is this your R?

Also, do you know if they are delivering two today? Their Facebook post this morning implied that.

That's my R, no they aren't delivering a two R's.  They delivered a blue one a week or two ago.  Don't know when the next one is due, but I know it's not there yet.

Since this thread has the word 'negotiation' in it, what discount if any is available on the R?

I got $1,000 off MSRP.  Not much negotiating power at the moment.  I did beat them up a bit on the extra's I wanted like winter tires and rims (getting the VW rims at cost and Pirelli tires at a competitive price), tire and rim protection plan (they originally quoted me $945 and got that down to $550), and tinting for back (called around and made them match best price I could find).

Needless to say, if you're looking for a "deal" on a Golf R you'll be very disappointed.  I'm lucky with how it all turned out for me.

...and first impressions are.....?

Still very early as I'm babying her for first 1,000 kms and am currently only at 130ish kms (came with 15kms when it was delivered to dealer).  The little bit that we've dipped into the power has been tempting.  I'd say it's a hard car to drive slowly, it's begging you to break laws.

The ride quality really surprised us.  We were expecting a much harsher ride over bad surfaces, due to the lack of rubber, large rims, and sports suspension.

Don't even ask about the infotainment as I haven't played with it really at all.  Need to go on a extended road trip to find out how good the seats are, but 30 minutes sitting in it at one time so far has been comfy.

I got the rears tinted.  They don't come like that from factory.  I hate anything with a hatch that doesn't have the back windows tinted.  Looks like you're driving around in a fish bowl.

What % tint did you go with? I agree with you on the looks. Still haven't tinted the GTI though because I find if you tint the rears but not the fronts it looks awkward.

I learned a bit about tinting during this process.  I didn't want to go too dark and we were already used to the amount of tinting that came on our Santa Fe from the factory.  We settled on 35%.  I figured if we went a lot darker it would look funny as you say.  But tinting the front wasn't something we considered because I didn't want to chance an extra ticket from the fuzz, already running without front plates.

Just get 35% all round, that looks best on most cars IMHO.  You don't need the rear darker.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

I had 15% on my Mazda 5, that was fine for the most part except when it was raining at night. I went to 25% in the Mazda 3 and it's perfect.

In Ontario we are allowed to to tint the fronts
We have the front tinted on the truck & Prius , love it

I think it looks great too but I think half the R's we'll get in Canada will be that blue.  To me it's a dead give away that it's an R.  I like a more sleeper friendly White, Black, or Silver.
