So do the non-tech cars come with the 6.5" navigation system?
Yes the non-tech cars come with the new 6.5" navigation system, with same Fender audio system.  The tech package only adds 1.5 inches to the screen and safety feathures.

I order a Pure White (there's also a pearl white), manual, none tech package.  I've heard that the tech package cars are a solid month or two behind the none tech ones.

Good choice of specs.   Question: Are there optional wheels for Canada?

I really like these ones (particularly when paired with white):

Nope, we get standard 19" wheels as pictured on the wrapped car. In the U.S. I believe the base R has 18s.

Too bad.

Nice that the car comes loaded.   But would also be nice to use stock 18s for winters and get something lightweight for summers.  19" winters wouldn't be ideal.

Another bonus I was anticipating was how much insurance would cost.  Compared to any of its peers the Golf R is significantly cheaper to insure.  Compared to a $10,000 cheaper WRX it's about half the cost.

I think this is due to it not being considered a performance car by my insurance company.  Plus with it being such a rare car at the moment there aren't many accidents to go by.

Well the first 2016 Golf R just arrived at the dealer here in Fredericton, looks like mine will be next.  Won't be too long now until I'll be posting a Show & Shine thread.

Just got another updated ETA, should be landing in Halifax harbour on Sunday.  All this is happening so quickly that I'm caught a bit off guard.  I just order my personalized plate and it won't be here for 4-6 weeks so I'll be running with a temp plate for a few weeks.  I still have to figure out what I'm going to do with the front plate.  I really don't want to ruin the front bumper by drilling into it.  There's a couple of tow hook mounting options but they all seem to set off the parking sensors.  Then there's the problem of winter tires and rims, normally this wouldn't be a problem as I'd buy them later but it was part of the deal I negotiated ($1,000 towards winter rims and tires included).  The main issue is I know all 18" rims will fit but not all 17" rims.  I'd rather the smaller rim, in steel for the comfort and not worrying about damaging it.  Just don't know if that will fit.  I don't want to spend a bunch on alloy rims that I'll be scared about ruining.

I tend to think the R is a bit more stealthy than a GTI, but from the back maybe not so much.

Like it a lot - but I still think both the GTI and R are very stealthy.  95% of people won't know it's anything more than a regular Golf.

Incidentally, the bumper with the centre exhaust seem to be available as an option on the current Golf. Here's an ex-show car that looks like it's loaded with every accessory including 19" wheels. Been on sale for a while at 401-Dixie...

Price = $40,912   :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:

it has been equipped with a long list of VW Accessories. These Accessories have a total value of $12,500 BUT, as a special deal, the posted price on this vehicle reflects a reduced price tag of $8,995 for a savings of approx. $3,500!!!

I can't stop laughing at this ad.

^^Yup, they are optimistic with that pricing. It's been on autotrader for a while, so I'd say they're ripe for negotiation if somebody wants a decked-out Golf.

So everyone sat their ass in it at the Toronto show and that somehow adds value to the car?
$12500 in accessories should be thrown in for free if they want to move it this year. It's basically a Demo with low (but not 0) km.
