Compressing mp4 files
« on: October 29, 2014, 07:45:59 pm »
Can you compress an mp4 file using pkzip or something similar? Ive tried it and it does not compress.
What's the way forward?

7zip... put it inside a folder and compress that

Or do the same thing using windows itself.. create a new compressed folder and copy the file into it.

That does nothing.  Just tried it.  It compressed a 16.1meg file into 15.5 meg.

I'm trying a couple programs.  Will let you know which one works.

What are you trying to do with the video?

Depending on that there are some better suited programs, but it really depends on your use case

SUPER is one way to shrink down videos but you lose quality as you do this

Reduce the files down to a size that I can e-mail them.

yeah.. online file sharing, or if you must email, either reduce quality or split it into multiple files using winrar or something.

Mp4 is already a compressed file.  The only way to further compress it would to reduce frame rate.  But quality suffers.
