I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of shocked they went so fast. Congrats Volvo.

I thought these were being sold in North America to customers, not dealers.

After showing off the all-new, second generation Volvo XC90 at an event in Sweden, Volvo put the initial 1,927 “First Edition” units up for sale online on Wednesday.

You could be right , I read as sales in Sweden

I believe this was globally, not just North America.

Remember that in Canada, they're $15k more expensive...so the cheaper markets probably snapped them all up.  ;D

Still mad at Volvo for this.  First the "Thor" thing, then trying to eliminate all injuries by 2020 (and thereby ruining my industry ;D totally kidding on this point - I want no injuries and for me to start working on product liability ;D), then selling a special edition for $81k even though it wasn't the 'T8' engine, and then the final straw saying "what's the problem with us selling the car to Canadians at a $15,000 premium because your dollar is worth <9% less than the USD?  Everyone else does it!"

...go to hell, Volvo.  Go to hell.

...go to hell, Volvo.  Go to hell.

Based on their sales, I'd say they aren't that far off from the afterlife....

Lack of new product? Lack of dealers?  Poor pricing? All of the above?

their limited sales is based solely on lack of products...

Volvo has not introduced replacements for the C30, S40, V40; it has no presence in the small CUV segment; left good products fall behind - such as S80, V70, XC90; and their current products are only OK! Hopefully the introduction of the XC90 will start an on slaughter of products for the next couple years. If not, we will, once again, see a good auto company slowly hit bottom line in NA.

On the $15,000 difference, all I can say is - a lot of the time - Canadian vehicles have more equipment, even at the same trim level. The typical Canadian consumer is usually okay with paying a little more and we, about half the time, get better standard equipment compared to those to the south.

A good example? Standard heated seats, or at least their availability at lower trim levels versus the top trim levels in the US.

Again, this isn't ALWAYS the case, but a lot of the time it is.

You are right. When I bought my V70R the extra $15k I had to spend in Canada vs the USA meant I got a 115V plug in the hatch (turned out it didn't exist) and laminated side windows.

What a deal !

Volvo: Your prices are too damn high!. I do look forward to perhaps buying one of these "Special Editions" for 1/2 MSRP in 2-3 years out of the States though.... ;D

But that's the thing...I don't want Volvo to go to hell.  I love their older cars, and I'm sure their new ones will be stellar.  I'm just furious with the management.

Let's be honest, here: The T8 will be one hell of an engine.  2.0L, twin-charged engine with e-assist, 400hp and the ability to sit in stop n' go lurch-traffic without using any gas?  No range anxiety?  Is that not the dream?   :drive:

If they come out with an S40 with the 'T8' engine for under $60k (MSRP, not on the road), that would quite possibly be the most expensive car I'd be willing to buy - but I would be willing to buy it.

i'm with Quad, being surprised these all sold so fast

NOTO - you might be upset at the price (and I share the idea that the price is too high) but the market has spoken and it's all sold out.

The Chinese gave Volvo the lifeline they needed and if they can now crank out all new products somewhat quickly, I think we'll see Volvo do much better.

All hail the Market!  Do not use its name in vain.

So... Volvo sold under 2,000 XC90s world-wide...and it took two full days?  :shuffle:

Applaud for Volvo offering them online at least. Now if only we could order any car online.

Considering Volvo Canada can't even get their website up to date and continues to send me offers for cars I can't even build online......I don't think they would do very well if it were to happen.

Do they have any dealers let in cities under 150,000 in pop ?
