With an all-new twin-turbocharged V6 mated to a new 8-speed automatic, the CTS Vsport sedan is an exciting performer, but you may be surprised at the price.

90% torque between 3500 and 4500 = massive midrange punch without turbo lag? I hope that is a type for the torque curve, or else that is a really, really narrow power band of not even 100% torque from this TT motor. Those kind of rpm peak numbers are for a n/a engine, not what is supposed to be a torque monster ttV6.

With that fuel appetite, may as well wait for the big daddy CTS-V.

If the CTS V-Sport performs as claimed (in all ways), it will be EXCELLENT VALUE. The as tested price is less than $2k more than my car (pretty much loaded E350). Yet the V-Sport runs with the V8 E550 which sells in the mid-80s with similar options. So the V-Sport looks like the low price entry in the segment and by all accounts it's a very good car.

From the perspective of this actual potential customer, the CTS V-Sport has earned its way on to my "just maybe" list...a first for any Cadillac.

So I think it's a win until it is proven that the CTS doesn't live up to the hype.

So just go trade your Berlin taxi and report back to us on whether it was worth it  :)
Me thinks there is more to that equation than powertrain and spec sheet at a "mere" $2k premium over your current car. Trade-off's must exists, and I want someone else to find out what they are.

It's interesting the responses to this car.  By all quantitative metrics, the CTS seems to compete quite well with the 5, E and A6.   And yet....I too think it's more expensive than what I would expect.

I wonder whether Cadillac would have been better to use the CTS name on (what is now) the ATS at the compact luxury level, and then used STS (or some new name) for this true midsize car.

It's hard enough for them to sell the Cadillac brand as the equal of the Germans, now they have to sell the CTS name vs the midsize pack.

Seems like a marketing misstep to me.

Do YOU realize that you can have the same performance for HALF the money in the form of Mustang GT?
Even the Shelby version is, what, $14k less than VSport? There's gotta be a DAMNED good reason to pick the VSport over the Shelby if you are after pure spec sheet.

The price comments are 100% valid.

The new updated E-class received a somewhat lukewarm welcome from the auto journalists. And yet I see them all over Ottawa already.
I've seen 2 CTS's so far, and both were 2.0T

But that's the thing. The main reason why people are coming into this thread and saying "this is way too much" is because it's a Cadillac and it's their opinion that it's somehow inferior (whether is actually is or not).

You don't built brand cache and compete with the class leaders through offering a cheaper product. You have to charge the same and build a quality product. That's the only way Cadillac will actually stand on their own two feet shoulder to shoulder with the Germans and Lexus.

Somehow American cars HAVE to be cheaper. It reminds me of the new Vette. All we heard about was the crappy interior. You can now buy a totally luxury interior on the base Vette which can push the price up from the 50s into the 60s and 70s if you tick all the boxes. The complaint then becomes "this is too expensive for a Vette."

You can't win.

I call BS on your last post. I am yet to see someone complain about the new 'Vette's price. GM really deserves a pat on the back for making the 'Vette a true no-nonsense sports car at a very good price. CTS? Remains to be seen. I do not see myself in one at that price. Too ambitious. My money would go to FGC or Lexus.

People will pay $60K for a 3 series BMW without blinking, "Oh its a BMW, its ok"....this thing which is bigger, faster, way better looking (IMO of course), "holy crap thats a lot of money for a Caddy". I don't find a lot of the german cars that good looking anymore, the E39 5 series was beautiful, the W124 E class was beautiful and they performed better than anything that Caddy had on the market with ease, today, no longer the case. Ze Germans are no longer head and shoulders above them in any way shape or form except for brand cachet. The badge whore types thing that the BMW or Merc will impress the neighbors while a Caddy will look like you cant afford the german competition, Caddy has to overcome that stigma and it should keep its pricing up. They cant afford to be looked at as the cheaper alternative.

Why though?? Is it because they have less equipment, not as powerful, dont handle as well?? I agree, the M5 and AMG E class are amazing beasts of vehicles, the run of the mill 6 cylinders....meh. Oh wait, you are going to say that they are built with German precision and blah blah blah....hmmm....seems thats not really true when you consider how horrid they do in the reliability department. I dont know, I cannot see any reason as to why this isnt in the same class as its german competition.

What about it?? Have the naysayers actually been in one, driven it?? Again, "oh my god, $50K+ for a HYUNDAI....are you insane?!?!?!" .
