A couple of reasons.
The line diameter is THIN. .1mm (.004"). It's mind blowing to me that there are 8 strands in this braid!
Anyways, when you're doing finesse, lots of the techniques are on slack line (traditional fishing is typically tight lines). Or the hits come on slack line when the bait is sinking.
So being able to see a hit (in the absence of feeling a hit) is important.
That being said, my eyes aren't amazing anymore so I'm not sure I could accurately see .004" if it was flashing neon! LOL [emoji38]
The "showing off" comment is because you usually want completely invisible lines as some fish are line shy. But the water I usually fish in looks like chocolate milk so I don't think the fish can see it anyhow.
