a massive surge, I wonder if it will taper off as the month progresses.  It looks more like they were doing a big push to impress the investors for the end of the quarter as just a week prior to the month end it was only half that.

Yes almost double the previous week. At 2000/week it is still 100,000 or so per year. Very few EV's are produced to that volume.

Despite industry professionals (including some from this forum, cough, cough) Musk is finally agreeing.

Over the last few days, he's said:

Elon Musk agrees the company is relying on too many robots to make the Model 3, tweeting "Yes, excessive automation at Tesla was a mistake. To be precise, my mistake. Humans are underrated."

The Model 3 assembly line is widely regarded as one of the most robotics-driven anywhere, and Musk tells a CBS interviewer that robots have slowed production in some cases.

I hate to say I told you so....BUT I TOLD YOU SO!

I don't think you hate to say it in the slightest  ;)
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

2866?   link to this?     they are halting production last i heard.   https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/apr/17/tesla-halts-model-3-electric-car-production-improve-automation

the shareholders should launch a big class-action against elon for lying about his targets for years

he got the figure from here https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-tesla-tracker/
from what I read the halt may not have taken place and as such will not reflect in the tracking figures.

From what I've heard, production has stopped.

2866 was last week. If they stopped production this week that is another story.

Google is our friend as always. A week long production stop..

Only a minor impact on the stock price..

The executive also praised his employees for making the Model 3 design tolerances "better than any other car in the world" and promises to further improve going forward.

.............that remains to be seen  ;D

Tesla executives live in a cave and have never seen another actual car.  Our $20K 2009 Corolla was manufactured with far better fit than a $200K Model X I examined.  Seriously.  Someone should send them a Lexus.

I could tolerate that interior for around 35 grand before rebates  ;)

There's lots of stuff that goes along with that article.  Some of it hidden..some of it in the open.  Reading between the lines and other articles about the quality, Tesla needs to build 6000 vehicles a week so that they have 5000 to sell because of re-work and quality issues.  Just because they are building 6,000, it doesn't mean all 6,000 are in saleable condition. And Musk says so in a leaked e-mail to employees.

The reason that the burst-build target rate is 6,000 and not 5,000 per week in June is that we cannot have a number with no margin for error across thousands of internally and externally produced parts and processes, amplified by a complex global logistics chain. Actual production will move as fast as the least lucky and least well-executed part of the entire Tesla production/supply chain system.

By having a Model 3 subsystem burst-build requirement of 6k by the end of June, we will lay the groundwork for achieving a steady 6k/week across the whole Model 3 system a few months later.

The quality issues were present when they were working 5 days a week with 2 shifts per day...for a total of 80 hours work week.  Now they are going to cram this operation into a 24/7 affair, per Musk, along with 400+ new employees.  Expect things on the quality front to get worse, not better in the near future while the new staff gets up to speed.  The next thing...is this 24/7 operation is going to eat away at the margins on the Model 3 too.  You're going from 80 hours per week to 168 hours per week in labor while not manufacturing any more than the promised 5,000 cars...which was promised on their normal 80 hour week.

It's a mess, people.
