With this announcement, I wouldn't be considering an Expedition.  Ford needs to step up their game, especially since GM has with the 2015 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade.

I really dig the look of the Yukon right now.

I have an Expedition but if I were buying new today it would be a Yukon or Durango.  Ford just isn't competitive in this class now.

I'm curious to see what Ford's long-term approach to big SUVs will be...this isn't it.

As far as I know, the Expedition moves to the new platform a year after the F150 is released. This is a gap filler until then.

Sales in the segment have been falling though. In the US, the Expedition sold 163K in 2002, 38k last year. The Suburban sold 151k in 2002 and last year it was down to 51K. The Sequoia dropped from 70k to 13k.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I wonder if it will have an aluminum body. Ford has enough truck tricks to make the next Expedition interesting. Although I can imagine the end of these beasts.

Speaking with someone from Ford back in November in LA, the Expedition is here to stay for the long haul. They do have loyal customers in the US.

I agree for most people there are better choices and I make fun of my "beast " too.  What I don't understand is why these are fading away and pick ups are thriving.  Seating for 8 and a huge enclosed cargo capacity makes much more sense then an open box.    My Expedition tows as well as a F150, rides better and has tighter circle making much easier to drive in tight places.  However you will see 100 F150s for every Expedition.

How many people really need to haul manure and fire wood?

^^ I'm sure a lot of it simply comes down to cost: for whatever reason, the big SUVs are way more expensive than a similar pickup.

The base Suburban starts at nearly $60k, while you can get a crew cab pickup with similar equipment for around $40k. Probably not many people think a third-row seat and covered storage is worth twenty grand.

The difference is more like $14k when comparing a base Suburban LS 4x4 to a Silverado LT 4x4 crew cab with the 5.3. Not sure how similar the equipment is.

The LS is a base model...LT is middle of the road.

Right, but there is no Silverado LS and in their newer vehicles Chevy has been getting rid of the LS trim.

If you pay cash, the discounts are also greater on the pickups. Suburban LS 4x4 comes to $57k and the Silverado 1LT 4x4 with the 5.3 is $40k.

Okay, so the difference is only $17k. And I also didn't bother to look at all the standard stuff: Suburban might have more standard goodies, but I don't think it would amount to too much. It seemed pretty basic last time I took a close look.

Either way, there is a significant premium for the SUV over the pickup.

I never really liked the Expedition, I dont know, they were always kind of funny looking and their drivetrains never really inspired confidence. In this segment, I think the Tahoe/Yukon are much better vehicles.

I agree with you. Still, it would be interesting to see how Ford might bring its truck innovations to a brand new Expedition.

That would be a crapload of aluminum in the body :o I agree, it always good for whatever segment to stay competitive.

That is why more people will by a crewcab over a SUV
Does not the SUV have the mileage tax when you buy it in Ontario, pick ups do not
