It is part of a corporate strategy to reduce trade-in cycles.  Make 'em ugly so buyers crave new metal even sooner.

I actually think its decently okay on the outside.

Its the overhangs that screw it up much like the current TL. If it were RWD and the front axle pushed 3-4 inches forward it would be much better.

I don't think the interior is terrible either but it does have a sort of 1980s Boombox motif going on.

literally every one of my neighbours (I live on a court with 40 houses) came up to me after the most recent 'snowmaggedon' and said they want to buy a Subaru if they are going to continue to live in Canada - they were all so impressed with how I just drove away with no issues as they all struggled to get their FWDs off the driveway.

A week later, there were 4 new Subarus on my street.  3 Foresters and 1 Legacy.

Funny what motivates people to buy a new vehicle. Any good CUV/SUV with winter tires can easily navigate in deep snow and on ice. Today we have 25-30 cm of snow on our unplowed street and the Venza with the 20" Blizzaks just crawled away with ease. I did see a Forester at my son's school parking lot with no winter tires.... spin and spin and spin...it was comical.

Yup.  Even the most basic slip/grip AWD with snows can handle pretty much anything you'll find in an urban environment.

I was surprised that they applied the CVT to the 3.6. They had to do something to boost the fuel economy, and I suppose there are only so many 6+ speed longitudinal transmissions going around.

They seem to have the current CVTs figured out pretty well.
