This is good news for all new and existing truck owners. Diesel power is starting to gain traction across the whole vehicle spectrum in North America.

If this is the 3.0L Lion engine, it's in some pretty good company:

3.0D/TDV6/HDi

Engine configuration & engine displacement
60-degree V6 engine, twin-turbo diesel, 2,993 cc (183 cu in), bore x stroke 84.0 mm × 90.0 mm (3.31 in × 3.54 in), compression ratio 16.4:1

Cylinder block & crankcase
Compacted graphite iron cross bolted block

Cylinder heads & valvetrain
High strength aluminium, DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder

Aspiration
Twin-turbochargers with air-to-air intercooler, electronically actuated variable geometry with transient over-boost capability, port deactivation system

Fuel system & engine management
Siemens Commonrail (CR) direct diesel injection, maximum injection pressure of 2,000 bars (29,000 psi), piezo injectors

DIN-rated motive power & torque outputs
177 kW (237 hp), 450 N·m (330 lbf·ft) – Citroën C5, Citroën C6, Peugeot 407, Peugeot 407 Coupé
177 kW (237 hp), 500 N·m (370 lbf·ft) – Jaguar XF, Land Rover Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport
187 kW (251 hp), 600 N·m (440 lbf·ft) – Land Rover Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport
202 kW (271 hp), 600 N·m (440 lbf·ft) – Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ, Range Rover

It was originally developed with Peugeot-Citroen.

The F150 was originally supposed to get the 4.4L V8 diesel engine, but costs killed it. This engine is somewhat cheaper to produce.

I'm a little surprised they didn't use the 3.2L 5 cylinder diesel (~200 HP and 350 ftlb of torque) that's going into the full size transit.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

The Navistar 6.0L and 6.4L both had issues. The current 6.7L was designed in house by Ford and has been much better.

But everyone has been struggling with all of the complexity of the required emissions equipment.

Maybe the they should just license the emissions control technology from VW or Benz. They seem to have it figured out.
No they haven't. Swirl valve replacement in the Grand Cherokee[a M.B. engine] is about a $4800 touch. Not a question if it will, but when. In warranty or out of warranty. The swirl valve in the new Fiat designed Grand Cherokee has been redesigned for a much less expensive to replace.
Enjoying the Alberta advantage

GM has the 2.8 litre diesel upcoming in their new midsize trucks, and that would probably work well in a slightly larger Silverado too.
