Damn it.  I was hoping to read about nuclear powered seats melting their victims.  This is pretty weak.

Toyota Seat Heater Causes Sales Halt In US, To Continue In Canada
« Reply #3 on: January 30, 2014, 04:35:31 pm »
My understanding is that the material does not meet US standards for fire resistance, and therefore it's illegal for Toyota to sell them in the US, but magically the same standards don't apply in Canada.

I wonder how Toyota Canada will manage to sell cars when people ask how they can justify this?

Meh, they'll provide Nomex Flame Retardant coveralls for the occupants or seat covers made out of the same material.  LOL.

Americans can sue far more easily than Canadians and are often granted punitive damages. I think that's your explaination.

Bring out the people with a burning desire to extinguish Toyota. I'd be shocked if this didn't become a hot topic.

US fire resistance standards are a joke, and their sole raison d'etre is to line the pockets of chemical companies...not protect people.  Even the guy who invented the fire retardant chemical says it's a joke.  Watch the documentary "Toxic Hot Seat".

Should be a small problem overall, you had to get leather for heated seats for ages.  Is the new Corolla not one of the first models with heated seats and cloth?

Puts a new meaning to roasting your nuts over a fire  :rofl2:

I wonder how much this is going to cost them?  And, how it will impact their reputation with the general public?  I have a feeling most people won't care much.

Seems like a technicality more than anything. But I'm sure the mediaUS MSM will give it a go.

that is a shame. First the Camry Hybrid's brakes and now this. Thankfully Toyota's are soooo reliable.

says in the article, heating element by itself doesn't meet regulation but seat as a whole does.
