I think we kind of beat this topic to death back in the diesel comparo. Not sure if there's much left to say that hasn't already been covered.  :-\

Uh, this "test" is only a discussion of the price and options.

Yeah, is it good enough to be left outside on a properly cold, Canadian winters night and then start??
Lighten up Francis.....

Im curious about the in-car connectivity. Do you know how the data plan works? Does BMW charge
a monthly fee, or are they charging on a per-use basis?

I do not know but I suspect a monthly fee tied to a Sim like any other.  I can see if I can find out.

You mentioned that 2 out of 3 ratings preferred the BMW over the diesel Benz....I just read a Consumer Reports article that rated it extremely well  (the Benz)...It seems to be a very balanced vehicle...with a big back seat...Thanks  Jack

After having been in the rear seats of both E350 and 528i, I found that neither vehicles can match the rear seat legroom of a modern run-of-the-mill mid size family sedans like my old Altima.

Love the internet browser option, but I'd probably pass the monthly cost and use my smartphone/tablet if I want to look something up.

Our 2005 Accord also had more rear legroom than the Berlin taxi and way more than my '09  E Class...in which you basically had to turn your feet sideways to get in the back. Having said that, I don't care because I don't go in the back. Also, the smaller previous gen E Class was the perfect size in my opinion so getting bigger has made the car incrementally worse, not better. We had both the 2005 Accord and the 2009 E300 side by side in our garage and the Accord looked bigger in every way and was roomier in every way I think, except front legroom (the Mercedes would accommodate 6 foot 6ers with ease). The Honda had a roomier trunk too. But the interior space came at a cost, the Accord looked over inflated compared to the much more svelte and stylish Mercedes, and it's only gotten worse since then as new cars puff outward to add internal cubic feet.

A lot of it has to do with a transverse mounted FWD design versus a longitudinal mounted RWD based design.  A lot more packaging efficiency for sure in the Accord.  My jaw dropped sitting in a 2014 Accord recently to see how much space there is front and back.  It's like a limo in there!

I'd probably take a loaded Accord - they are absolutely stunning in white or black - larger and just seem more practical.

This 5 series is nice but at the price I personally just couldn't justify it.

Oh ya, did I miss the part about the observed mileage?
My other Honda is an MP4-31!

Ramblings of Accords in a 5-series review.  *sigh*

This would probably be near the top of cars I'd choose for a cross country drive.

I concur, the long range, awd, sporty driving feel and comfy seats....yeah, this would definitely be the ticket for our trips to Manitoba.

Ditto, I would LOVE to drive a BMW 5 series for a road trip, but like most people, I constrained when it comes to car budget.

I'd agree. It's hard to beat German vehicles for long distance touring. They seem especially at home on the highway. I've done 800-1,000km days in both the 3 and the ML without feeling like a pretzel at the end of it.

I recently did a 1200km day in an X5 and at the end of the day felt as fresh as one could hope after some WOT and cruising most of the day at 160kph.
