Re: Preview: 2015 Honda Fit
« Reply #40 on: March 07, 2014, 12:52:26 am »
Just came back fro a local Honda Dealer.  First I sat in a 2014 Fit and it was nice, okay but nothing special.  Then i went to an Accord Coupe and sat in it.  I got in and was really impressed by the MASSIVENESS of the instrument panel in the Accord but then I wondered where is the floor of the showroom, I could not see it over the massively high hood beltline. If there was a road ahead of me I would not be able to see the road surface at all.  So I raised the seat to it's highest position until my hair was brushing up against the sunroof shade. I could just barely see out ahead, the forward visibility of the Accord Coupe TOTALLY SUCKS. If I was driving that car I would be smashing all of the cars around when I was trying to park in any shopping mall parking lots.  Of course maybe that's what all of those cameras are for; to help with parking such a badly designed car?  (for people like me with only so-so parking skills.)
Anyways, I said to myself:  "Nope, not getting that thing, cannot see out of it, yet I'm 5' 9" tall, not all that short"
So then I went back to the 2014 Fit again and sat in it and now it seemed light-years ahead. I could see the road surface much more easily and yes, I could see myself driving one of them.

So I did some research and I found out that UNLIKE THE NEW CIVIC, the CVT in the 2015 fit will actually be drastically improving the car's fuel efficiency.  (The civic improves only slightly with the CVT).  The new 2015 fit will get a combined efficiency of 36 mpg average compared to the old 2014 fit's overall 31 mpg  ( 2015 Honda Fit First Look -- Edmunds.com     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23C-JpAW3oo  )

I love the blue color, and I love the hatchback design combined with the car's small size.  The crappy fuel efficiency of the old model is what prevented me from wanting one, but now with much improved MPG I think that I just might get one after all.

Now some people might say "learn how to drive a stick".  Well, my answer to that is this:  "Did I mention my lack of driving skills?"  Yup, I'm a 100% automatic guy, no manuals for me, I a manual transmission's worst enemy.

You must be a horrific driver.

Also..not sure why you need to see the road a few feet in front of you.  A key rule of thumb for safe driving and racing is "look well ahead".  There is no need to see the road immediately in front of the hood...
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Ha ha, that picture of the booster seat got me laughing.  Thanks.
No, my head was already bumping up against the ceiling, would have to open up the sunroof of that accord to use a booster, but that is a good idea, it might work.  Still, why not just design a normal car for normal drivers TO BEGIN WITH?  eh?
All I ask for is to have a car with outwards visibility similar to or better than a Corolla built before 2009, is that too much to ask?
The Fit seems to be just like the 2006 Corolla in terms of outwards 'forward' visibility, that's why I could live with one.

The new 2015 fit was described a looking a lot like a shrunken Odyssey minivan.  Now when I go back and look at the pics I can see the resemblance.  I kinda like it, looks nice.

Cool !!!!   The new fit will get  33 mpg city /  41 hwy  (that is USA number, Canadians will be higher due to our LARGER gallons.)
41 mpg highway, now that is something I really look forward to !!!  (  2015 Honda Fit - 2014 North American International Auto Show :   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lojFjUYg8dE

Car are designed for normal driver.  Your demands are abnormal...because there is no need to see the road immediately in front of the car...

Waterlooresident, you should consider a Smart car. Awesome 360 degree visibility.

Made in China???  Geezuz..Jack

The article didn't say that.

Quote
Fit will be produced for the first time in Honda’s Celaya, Mexico plant and should be available mid-2014. No pricing information has been announced but expect it to get a slight price drop, closer to the Nissan Versa Note’s MSRP of around $13,500.
AAHHHH built in Mexico. So will people whine and moan about that like they do when a domestic moves production to Mexico??? :-X

So I'm assuming you're not aware that some current Canadian-market Fits are built in China?  :)

Our 2013 Fit comes from China.

I wonder if the engine is helping to improve the fuel efficiency, other than the CVT.

Quote
Under the hood, Fit receives a brand new 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine producing 130 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque (13 hp and 8 lb-ft more than the outgoing model). Along with this new engine is a pair of new transmission options. Thankfully, Honda will retain a manual option in their subcompact, providing a new six-speed manual (the current Fit can be had with a five-speed). However, just like many other cars, the Fit loses its traditional autobox for a new continuously variable transmission such as the one in the Nissan Versa Note. The CVT’s only saving grace is it will get paddle shifters, hinting at a stepped CVT setup much like the new Corolla.

seems a bit over the top there...there is only a difference of 5 mpg...you make it sound like such a wide margin...the reality is, they are both pretty much the same...maybe a couple of bucks per fill-up difference.

Biggest thing I hope for is with the 6th gear in manual, a little lower revs on the highway, and that little extra power is nice (better than nothing)

Our old 2007 MkI Fit averaged around 39 mpg ( imperial) over its life of mostly short trips and did 43 mpg when going G to NovaScotia and back over a 2 week period.  I.e not just highway but lots of short tourist stuff as well.
As far as we are concerned that is good mileage.   I doubt the 2013 MKII will do as well as it is an automatic.

I read some articles about people having problems with their Honda Fit's frequently burning out the ventilation blower motors. And problems with the engine's valve adjustments.  Still, I could live with those, they are not huge problems.

Wow; congratulations, that's really good.  I measure mpg in the smaller U.S. gallons, so that reduces things a bit.

The only 'faults'   our MkI Fit had were the two recalls both for electrical  and ours suffered neither of the problems.   It did surprise me, both the overall and the trip mileage  as mrs tpl is somewhat of a lead foot.

Why , do you buy gas in US gallons ? Does your speedometer measure  distance in miles ?
