No diesel immediately?   Weird.   I bet that engine from the GLK 250 would bolt straight in.

Could be due to production constraints on that diesel as it is going into the 2015 Sprinter with a 7 speed transmission.

Yes it would.  I drove a 2012 in Italy with a lower powered version of the same engine.

I'd expect some very competitive pricing considering this will now be built "locally". They're gonna sell a ton of these.

I disagree:

Built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the C-Class should be available this fall. Canadian pricing is not yet available.  ...expect to say HOLY D!CK that's expensive!
The CLA will no doubt mean that the C-class will be more expensive as it moves more 'upmarket'.  I'm not a big fan of the push to always make cars bigger, just so they can slot in another one 'just underneath'.  The current C is a great size, but the new one will be too big for my liking, and the CLA too cramped.  Thanks, MB, for ruining my dreams (going for some dramatic effect here...)!

Ugh, they've managed to take a prom queen and turn it into Honey Boo Boo. I preferred the old one - looked way more athletic and sporty than this thing does. Never liked the tail lights on the S class and it looks like they just did a copy/paste. I guess the CLA will have car the "sport" flag for Merc in the sport sedan category. But if you're a brand whore I guess its an improvement. You can now own your own "baby S Class".
My other Honda is an MP4-31!

Looks boring. I guess this is why they made the CLA to cater to the younger crowd, but something's wrong when the Genesis sedan tickles my fancy and the C-Class doesn't. Call me back in 10 years when I hit my 40s.

With the new c class being built in Alabama and not Germany there should be an approximately 6 % import duty savings under NAFTA. Mercedes Benz will definitely pass this on to the consumer.

i'm sure they won't do it willingly.  ;)

but forced into it because of strong competition and desire to gain back the marketshare lost to BMW and Audi.

Also, not all manufacturers will be able to eat the falling value of the Canadian dollar.   That could affect relative pricing going forward, that is it any of the cars in this class have any Canadian content at all.

Also, does MB have a plug-in hybrid powertrain in any of their models now?  Will they partner with someone?

Cheers,
John M.

Perhaps they will move upmarket by no longer selling a C250 model but they're still competing with things like the Audi A4 which is very competitively priced. I can't see this new C-class being any more expensive than the current model when equivalently equipped.

“luxury benchmark for the premium mid-size segment.”

ahhh, "mid-sized"?..........wouldn't that be the E class?

So let me get this straight...the 2 litre C200 is called the C300 and the 3 litre C300 is now the C400?  ???

I suppose.....makes at least as much sense as a BMW 3 series coupe being called a 4 series.  ::)

Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Side and rear profile.....beautiful car....that nose..yeesshh. Again, why is it such an automotive faux pas to actually brand a model with its correct displacement....I know C200 isnt as impressive as a C300, but isnt that damn near false advertising?? If Im buying a pound of ground beef and its only actually a 1/2 or 3/4 of a pound, I know Id be peeved off.
Lighten up Francis.....

How is it false advertising? The Germans have never been consistent about this.

Because calling a 2 liter a 3 liter isnt what you would actually call correct right?? I know its a marketing exercise to make the people buying the base models feel better but I dont get it.

Yeah a 325 had a 2.5, a 540 had a 4L....what was wrong with that??
