Built a couple of nicely equipped (but spendy) Porsche Macans...

Macan S for $71,000

Macan Turbo for $91,000

That's cheap. I went a bit crazy on the option list on the Macan S and totaled about $90k.

I tried to be realistic about what I'd actually pay if I wanted to replace the Berlin taxi with a Macan.

Yes, but I love how you can almost double the price of some vehicles with packages and options.

On the European websites, you can easily double the price of BMWs and Mercedes with extras and "BMW Individual" type things.

Thats if and when the BMW website actually works......

That's not too bad...I bet the selling price would be minus $10k or so...at least from time to time. I paid $47k in 2005 for my 3/4 ton Dodge Laramie Ram w/Cummins.

But Ford?

I know....I know....the engines I am very gunshy about, but the rest of the truck I really like.

I'm with you, I must have test driven 8 or 10 Super Duties over the years and always like driving them. Every time I go truck shopping I'm excited about driving the big Fords...but have never bought one.

It's true that the BMW "build and Price" configurator is dated and doesn't work very well.

I've "almost" bought two....then I researched what utter crap the 6L and the 6.4 diesel were and I ran for the hills. I really like them, interior is nice and comfortable, the rest of the drivetrain is fairly bulletproof and Ive always thought they were a great looking truck.

I shouldn't be too critical of Ford. I bought a Dodge and ended up with a great engine and pretty lousy everything else.

Thats what Im afraid of....I know the Super Duty hold together but the engines are crap, the Dodge is completely the opposite. GMs....I dont mind them, but in HD trucks, they dont really do anything for me.

If want the better leather on the Cherokee, don't you need the Luxury package?

what's "better" leather though?  It looks like the only difference is it's perforated??
both packages have 1 or 2 things I don't mind having but they all come with a bunch of stuff I don't really need or care for.   It would be more potential issues down the road I think.

Infiniti for a base Q50, checking how much the discount is for the VPP pricing and what the current incentives are... then over to VW for a base 5-door 5-speed MK7 Golf

Oh don't get me wrong I agree with you, It's just hard to tell the differences in the leather until you see it I guess...

which is why I built it without.  that's a thing I guess you'd have to see at the dealer.
and maybe while negotiating a discount, one could end up with enough discount to keep it at that price and have the package / packages.
