I'm not finished obsessing about the sub $53k base C7. I bet the base X1 is still very good.

I'm learning that the "base" on the luxury brands is meaningless.

first, the base means only getting certain colours.  Many of them they charge you for.
In this build I found a nice exterior / interior combo that I liked and was forced to add a package.

Aside from that sunroof might be the only thing I'd really like to have which would add costs.
My opnion however is that any "high end" car should have this as standard.
It's obvious that many brands are taking some really wanted options and setting them up so that you can only get it through some package which includes all kinds of other crap you don't need!!!

Welcome to several decades ago!

Just priced up a new C7 and mine came to $59,780.  I chose a black 1LT Z51 with the only options being black rims, nav and battery protection package.  Not a bad price at all really.  Maybe next year.  :)

Actually, not sure about there but here in Montreal, "base model" at BMW, MB and Audi typically translates to "not in stock / special order / if you really want that you'll have to wait months for it".

Well yeah, because almost no one wants base models.

I'm a big fan of base models, particularly on the higher end cars. Lower depretiation hit, I think, and they are usually fully loaded, from my perspective. Plus I usually change cars every 8 to 10 years so a new base model car seems like big step up.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Back on the Volvo site and it seems they have removed the specs for most of their cars. Really hope its only temporary as they ramp up for 2015 models.

i think so.   I had a look too, after the auto show.  (still in love the XC70)
they're showing the 2015 e-drive models when you try and build and price.   There's a way you can go back to 2014 but I wasn't able to find specs to see what model I'd be aiming for.

Whats wrong the base model not good enough??

Or is there a $10,000 option to get a manual somehow?

in my non-stop ongoing "car research"
I've built a couple vehicles I'm interested in with a few desired options
- Leather heater seats
- back up camera
- sunroof
- USB compatible stereo system / music display (doesn't have to be "infotainment")

to get some of these, it requires to jump into specific packages or models that clearing jack the price up

1. Toyota Tacoma TRS Sports Premium $45,525.95 (taxes in)
    note: no sunroof

2. Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited $45,739.52 (taxes in)

3. Jeep Cherokee Limited (V6) $43,284.65 (taxes in - fees estimated)

4. Volvo XC70 T6 $56,065.00 (taxes in)
    note: no back up camera

5. Honda Ridgeline Touring $50,014.00 (taxes in)
    note: no USB

6. Audi Q5 2.0 Progressive $54,805.00 (taxes in - fees estimated)
    note: no back up camera

7. Audi Q5 3.0 TDI Progressive $60,455 (taxes in - fees estimated)
   note: no back up camera

So I assume this is our ongoing tow vehicle debate... I haven't checked the other threads, your towing 3000lbs?  For me it would be the Subaru or the Ridgeline.  Remember, the isn't a dealer installed USB option for $200, no on website though.  The Ridgeline does 5000lbs...And I would watch for demos, 1-2 year old models...

sure is!

but i'm now going to hold out to the end of the lease.  So I now have 12 months to go!    :rofl2:

We've driven my dad's Ridgeline a few times this winter and getting back in it has gotten my wife back to thinking it's the best choice.   The 3000lbs towing is estimated since we don't have a trailer yet but I'm thinking I'd look at 2000lbs trailers max (leaving a 1000lbs window)

Since I've got a year, I've laid off the "advice" portion of my own search on our threads.
I'll get back to it in about 6 months!!!    ;)

They're decent, but man, the re-design can't come soon enough, when compared to the rest of Honda's lineup....Looking forward to your review...

Did you get to go to the RV show at the International Center?  Are should we kick some tires at Niagara Trailers in the summer?

we missed it.   it's been a very busy first couple of months this year at work.
I was actually really lucky I got to hit the auto show, although we showed up late and rushed through a bit of it.

There's a few places I'd like to check out this summer.  Niagara is one, but I think Burlington has a huge dealership?

Congrats with the Ridgeline!!!!
I don't know a single owner who can say anything really negative.  I'm still on the fence big time on this one, it would do so many thing so well but the size (box) does have some draw backs for me.   I'm very anxious to see what the next version has in store!

Is Wing reviewing one?  Or did he buy one?
