In the US, one has to get the Platinum trim to get bi-xenon headlamps which is irritating (sat nav comes on the mid-range Premier model). The best way is probably to do Euro Delivery and pick options à la carte.

I don't think Euro delivery allows you to pick options à la carte.

If that's true in Canada, that's a pity, although worth contacting one of the Euro Delivery retailers in Canada to check and ask. In the US, à la carte is possible with European Delivery so one can order some things like bi-xenons for 1200$, interior ambient lighting for 100$, heated steering wheel for 150$, etc...as well as a couple colours that dealers cannot order for inventory. But the Canadian market could be different.

The sat nav worked quite well on our test drive although the SIM card was not activated (obviously) so couldn't test the live traffic updates. Fairly intuitive, took me a couple minutes to get the hang of it coming from iDrive-like vehicles, but the graphics are decent enough.

I think that euro delivery is just what it says.  You choose, option and buy the car in Canada as a factory order.. Any options, any colour whatever is available...even the "exclusiv" options on some cars ( Porsches, Audis etc.)   BUT only combinations that are in the Canadian order book.
You collect it in Europe at the factory as you ordered it.

I don't know if the Nav would have the NA maps installed on delivery or the Euro maps with the NA install being done when the car gets to Canada...that would be a question I guess.

The V60 order guide I got doesn't have much in the way of a-la-carte.

Apparently you also lose the free maintenance thing.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I thought that was already gone from all their cars in Canada.

I thought so too, but the dealer guy who seemed pretty well in the know said otherwise. (He is the GTA rep for Volvo Euro Delivery...I assume he'd know).

The sat nav won't work while you're in Europe- stated on the order guide.

If I was going to a Euro delivery I'd insist that the euro maps were installed  and be prepared to PAY for the NA maps when I got the car back here.  I'd be going for a vacation and although I do know how to read maps I would for sure want the car nav system working.  Now a system like Audi connect I would NOT expect to work as the cellular frequencies are different.
The same GPS system is used in Europe, as the European system isn't fully up yet.

The Porsche configurator lets you choose Euro maps if you choose European delivery.

I would get the NA maps, because it will probably cost you $500 to get the NA maps installed, for your time in Europe get VIAGO from Garmin on your cellphone , cost is about $25 for downloadable Euro maps and work without data on your Iphone

Mini  :-[
Discussions about replacing the GLI with a used G37X somehow became "I like the Mini". Might as well see how bad it is...

^Yesterday I was also building up a BMW 228i coupé (came out to 37k $US MSRP), wondering what it would be like if it replaced my 6-month old Mazda.....but of course it is out of reach.

Seven grand in options?  You're doin' it wrong.  Get a near-stripped model 228i and you've still got everything that's important to enjoy that car and then it's a killer deal.

I dunno, some people like amenities, myself included. I wouldn't be buying one without a sunroof, for example.
